
Inner Surrender, Outer Action: Feel The Ultra Power Combo
In this meditation to cultivate an embodied sense of the balance between inner surrender and outer action, you'll feel and visualize your way through the difference between internal resistance and surrender and see what happens when you take action from a new place. By having a sense of the difference firsthand, you'll be empowered to practice it on a regular basis without getting deterred by surrender semantics.

Hey,
I'm Cyrus.
Welcome to this session for inner surrender and outer action.
We often hear the words surrender and ironically resist it because we associate it with weakness or passivity,
When in reality surrender is just another word of saying going with something internally instead of against it.
And that is not mutually exclusive with taking action.
Inner surrender does not mean outer surrender.
In reality it makes all the action you take infinitely more powerful and we're going to find this out first hand right now,
Making it easier to positively transform all aspects of your life in the process.
So start off by sitting upright in a chair with good back support and closing your eyes.
Take a slow deep breath in through the nose and release it slowly out through the mouth.
Let's do one more deep breath but make it a breath hold.
So breathing in even deeper this time,
Holding your breath at the top and feeling the energy in your body head to toe as you hold.
And slowly releasing out through the mouth,
Relaxing your muscles as fully as possible as you exhale.
Settle into a position that you feel good in,
Upright enough to be alert and awake but relaxed enough to be at ease and commit to a consistent physical stillness now.
And if it feels safe I invite you to think about some situation in your life that bothers you or isn't going your way that you're having trouble accepting.
Nothing overwhelming,
Pick something that feels manageable to think about.
And notice the inner resistance or the emotions that immediately start to arise in the body and mind when you become aware of this situation.
Maybe your mind thinks that it's changing the outcome or manipulating it to control what you want to create by generating all that internal resistance.
And fair enough,
That's one way of going about it.
But as an experiment in this moment,
Just see what happens when you become willing to surrender just internally.
Start to relax and release into those feelings that you're noticing when you think about this situation.
Allow those tensions and those energies a moment to just flow through without resisting them,
Without trying to change them for a moment.
And as you relax and release control even deeper,
Just consciously begin to internally surrender now.
Notice what happens as you say to yourself,
For this moment,
Right now,
This is what it is.
And I choose to completely accept that on the inside,
At least.
Notice the spaciousness that might start to open up and embrace that expansive spaciousness within.
And imagine what it would be like to take action to change that situation,
To do something about it,
Or perhaps to accept it if there is nothing to do for now,
From this internal place of spacious lightness.
See and feel how much more effective your action is from this energized place of flowing with the wave of energy instead of against it.
And now I invite you to shift your attention to some relationship in your life,
Again not something that's overwhelming but some aspect of some relationship that bothers you,
That isn't according to your preferences,
Maybe there's part of you that wants somebody else to change in some way.
As you become aware of this person and perhaps this quality that they have,
Notice the feelings,
Perhaps predictable and familiar as you may have felt them before,
That begin to arise and welcome them to flow for just a moment.
Notice how this inner resistance perhaps creates friction and maybe doesn't even accomplish what it's trying to do,
Perhaps it makes the other person double down or rebel against your attempts to change them,
However subtle or unconscious they might be.
And without judgment allow those feelings to flow through you,
Just noticing the flow of that inner resistance that arises for a moment,
Giving it space to breathe and be acknowledged directly.
And just for this moment allow that inner resistance to start to dissolve a little bit and experiment and notice what happens as you say to yourself,
I'm willing to surrender to the fact that this person is the way they are right now,
At least internally within myself.
Notice the difference in feeling that that creates within you,
Perhaps a sense of relaxation and acceptance are opening up and perhaps you might visualize what it looks like to relate and communicate,
To take that outer action in this relationship from that new and fresh internally surrendered energy.
Notice how perhaps you might see your communication is even more effective,
Even more likely to be received more fully by the other person.
And even if it's not,
Notice how there might be more peace within yourself as you interact with this person.
Fully able to take those outer empowered actions or simply accept them and the situation from this place of internal surrender.
And finally I invite you to shift your attention towards yourself.
Be aware of some aspect of yourself that perhaps you don't fully accept,
That you want to change and perhaps there's a subtle criticism or inner resistance that you carry in order to try to change that aspect of yourself.
Just notice without judgment.
And by now you know the rhythm,
Just notice the feelings in the body that come up when you think about that and give them a moment of attentive space to allow them to flow through.
Now notice as an experiment what it feels like when you simply choose to say,
I'm willing to fully surrender and accept this aspect of myself internally for just this moment.
And pay close attention to what shifts and perhaps rearranges within you as you internally surrender all attempts to change this aspect of yourself just for this moment.
And now visualize from this place of self-acceptance,
Choosing to take action to change habits or simply to deepen your sense of self-acceptance.
Whatever that outer action or non-action is,
Imagine yourself taking it from this newly aligned,
Internally surrendered place.
Notice how perhaps it's more relaxed and gentle and compassionate and therefore effective and sustainable as you're less likely to feel criticized or rebel against yourself from this place of inner surrender and alignment.
So if you sense it would be useful,
I invite you to set the intention now to making and remaking that commitment to inner surrender and then outer action in all these areas of your life,
The situations you noticed,
The relationships to others,
And the relationship to yourself and any other area you notice it would be useful,
Setting and embracing that intention for a moment now if it would serve you.
And when you feel ready,
Slowly at your own pace,
Open your eyes,
Moving slowly as you warm back up and being present with one moment at a time,
Feeling the freshness and empowerment of that inner surrender and outer capacity for even more elevated action.
I invite you to practice this and other tracks on a regular basis as the daily repetition and consistency is the most important thing for creating the most profound benefits with meditation.

This was fantastic! At the beginning, I wasn’t sure I would be able to feel any “space opening up” while processing my feelings…next thing I know, ahhhh! My chest is lighter, my stomach has relaxed, and my shoulders are no longer holding tension. Thank you for all you do! It was an amazing session!

Really stellar way to start the day! Taking a moment to release resistance (it's just a moment so it's much more approachable!) really sets the tone for accepting the things we might not have control over. Definitely a great meditation for the daily!

I have always had an amazing experience doing your meditations, Syrus! 🙏🏽 Thank you for creating these for us! I also think inner surrender lessens the tendency to control someone/ourselves or some situation for specific outcomes. The more we face something with inner surrender, the lower the expectations we set. Then, we can truly be in the present moment with complete acceptance, which makes our actions more powerful.
