
Heart Meditation
This special heart meditation allows the listener to connect to the beauty, colour and fullness of their heart. It begins gently by simply noticing our hearts as they are today. It then offers opportunities to experience a deep, felt sense of love, joy, connection and compassion. Through breath, the sentiments of the heart will flow through us.

Hello,
I'm delighted to share this time with you.
Today we are going to spend some time focusing on our heart,
That powerful place inside us that houses so many feelings and emotions.
Even the busyness of life and the power of our thinking minds act like a blanket,
Covering our hearts,
Sheltering them from the challenges of life,
But also hiding their beauty and their wisdom.
This cover of our busy minds protects our heart from feeling pain and sadness,
And also from experiencing unbridled love,
Compassion and joy.
In today's meditation we will pull back the covers and connect with the beauty,
Colour and fullness of our hearts.
We shall connect with their infinite capacity for love.
We shall turn their whispers into song.
Their rhythm will flow gently through us.
We will begin gently by simply picturing our hearts in our minds,
Noticing without judgement their qualities as they are today.
We will then bring the beauty of our hearts and their capacity for deep love,
Joy and connection to life.
We will enable the sentiments of our hearts to flow through our entire being.
So let us begin by finding a comfortable position.
This could be seated or lying down.
Closing down your eyes if you like,
Letting the landscape of your awareness turn inwards to your breath,
Body and heart.
As you settle in,
Noticing the places where your body comes in contact with the surface that supports you.
Relaxing into this support a little more now.
Really letting the ground take your weight.
Taking a nice deep breath into this feeling of being supported,
Of the earth holding you.
As you exhale,
Sinking deeper and letting go of anything that doesn't serve you in this moment.
Letting go of the tasks,
Activities and responsibilities of the day.
Remembering,
There is nowhere else you need to be,
It's ok to take this time for yourself.
Arriving into this moment now.
Finally turning your attention to your breath.
Noticing the air as it enters your nose,
As it moves down your throat.
As you inhale,
Noticing your chest expand at the front,
Back and the sides.
Noticing the rise and fall of your belly.
Noticing the feel of the air as it leaves your mouth.
Air flowing in,
Air flowing out.
Taking a few more moments here in the gentle movement of your breath.
Just as the tide washes over the sand,
Your breath washes over you.
Being safe in this movement of being breathed.
If you find that your mind is wandering now or at any time during this meditation,
Don't worry,
Just as our eyes are designed to see,
Our minds are designed to think.
It's ok to think in meditation,
It doesn't mean you are doing it wrong.
Just see if you can attend to your thoughts with the same curiosity and openness you are giving your breath.
Allow your thoughts to move freely,
To rise and fall,
To ebb and flow,
Just as your breath does.
So you may give your thoughts what they need and when it feels right for you,
Simply return to the sound of my voice.
So once more being curious about your breath,
Which part is capturing your attention.
Sustained focus and curiosity,
Such powerful mindfulness principles.
Bringing your awareness now to your heart and the space around it.
Inviting some gentle breaths into this space.
With each breath can you feel a softening.
Perhaps you can feel your heart beating.
Is it soft,
Strong,
Fast or slow?
Directing a few more deep breaths into this space now,
As if waking your heart from its slumber.
With these gentle breaths you are pulling back the covers of your busy thinking mind to reveal your sacred heart.
As your heart wakes,
Perhaps you can picture it in your mind.
What colour is it?
What texture?
Is it big or small?
Is it moving or is it still?
Taking a moment now to notice any feelings or sensations that are present for you in your heart.
Feel today.
Strong,
Open,
Reserved,
Tentative,
Worried,
Abundant.
Perhaps you don't feel much at all or no words come to mind.
Whatever your experience is,
This is okay.
Just resting here in the space of your heart for a few more moments.
Cultivating mindful awareness now.
If you notice your mind is wandering,
Perhaps to certain thoughts or emotions,
That's okay.
See if you can attend to them with curiosity and openness,
Perhaps even love.
And when it feels right for you,
Return to the sound of my voice.
Finding a moment now bringing to your mind someone that you love.
This could be your partner,
Your child,
A niece or nephew,
A parent,
A close friend,
Or perhaps someone you are destined to meet.
This person could be from your past,
Your present or even your future.
Can you picture them standing in front of you?
They are smiling at you.
Feeling a moment sensing their presence inside your mind and your heart.
Noticing the details of their face.
Noticing their eyes,
Their smile.
Noticing their posture,
Their clothes.
Feeling their warmth,
The connection between you both.
What do you love about this person who stands before you in your mind's eye?
Perhaps they make you laugh.
Perhaps they love you unconditionally.
Maybe with them you can truly be yourself.
And what do they love about you?
Feeling now any sensations or feelings in your heart or your body.
Breathing into these sensations for a moment or two,
Allowing your breath to move the essence of these sensations around your body.
Feeling this love move from your heart into your chest,
Travelling into your tummy,
Hips and pelvis,
Moving down your legs to your feet and toes.
Feeling this love move across your shoulders,
Down your arms to your hands and fingers.
Feeling this sense of love to seep into your entire being.
Breathing in love,
Breathing out love.
If this love was a colour,
What would it be?
Breathing in this colour of love,
Breathing out this colour of love.
Can you picture yourself surrounded by this colour now,
As if floating on a cloud of its essence and beauty?
It is holding you.
You are being held.
Now,
When you are ready,
Can you picture yourself standing there in front of your mind's eye?
Perhaps you see yourself as a child.
Maybe it is you from a distant past,
From the present or even from your future.
What do you notice about this version of yourself who stands here before you?
Can you direct some of this love and colour towards this version of yourself,
This you that tries their best,
That wants to be loved,
That deserves to be loved?
No right or wrong here,
Just being open to whatever comes up for you.
What are the qualities you love about this self that you see?
What moves you about this version of yourself?
Once again,
Breathing into these sensations,
Allowing them to move around your body,
Mind and heart.
Feeling these sensations to wash over you like a gentle wave washes over the sand.
Hearing the whispers of your heart.
The heart is supremely intelligent.
It can sense,
Feel,
Learn and remember.
It can feel so many emotions.
Feeling grateful now for the capacity of your heart for feeling love,
Joy,
Compassion and delight.
Being grateful also for its capacity to feel pain and sadness and for its ability to heal.
Hearing your heart a few grateful breaths.
Gently in your mind,
Repeat these messages to your heart.
May I receive your love.
May I hear your song.
May I be guided by you.
Allow these words of connection to soak into you just as the earth soaks up summer rain.
Gently repeat again quietly in your mind.
May I receive your love.
May I hear your song.
May I be guided by you.
Now from this place of deep connection to your heart,
Perhaps you might like to ask it a question to seek its wisdom and guidance.
Perhaps you would like help connecting with your deep desires and values.
Maybe you would like some guidance on a particular area in your life or some wisdom concerning a relationship.
Offering you now a few moments to listen to the whispers and the wisdom of your heart.
May I receive your love.
May I be guided by you.
May I be guided by you.
Gently deepening your breath now.
Gently finding movement through your fingers and toes.
Taking a nice big stretch if you like.
When you are ready you may open your eyes.
As you move through today and tomorrow may you feel connected to your heart.
