So then we begin our actual meditation practice on the nature of change,
Getting yourself comfortable and upright as always,
Then begin with those few deeper breaths,
Using especially the out-breath to calm the mind,
Calm the body.
One more long breath in,
Long breath out.
And then we set a positive intention to be here,
Not just for ourselves alone,
But for thinking about others as well.
We make the intention to be here for the benefit of every single living being,
And bring your attention into the present moment.
Let everything else go,
We don't need to be anywhere else for this short period.
Start by bringing your attention to your breathing for the first few moments,
Just be there mixing your mind with the breath.
Just be there with your breath going in and your breath going out.
And then we begin by bringing our attention to the body and beginning to notice how the body is always changing.
The breath is going in and out,
The breath is going in and out,
The blood is going around,
The heart is beating,
The other organs are working,
The nails and the hair are growing,
The skin is dying and changing,
Even the bones and teeth which appear to be so solid.
In reality the atoms and molecules inside are constantly moving,
Constantly changing.
No part of the body stays the same,
Even for one moment.
The whole body is in a constant state of change.
So allow that conclusion of the changing nature of the body to come down from a thought to a feeling and focus on that feeling of moment to moment change.
And then bring your attention to the world around you,
The place where you're sitting,
The room you're in,
The objects,
The walls and building.
Those things appear to be solid and fixed but in fact they're moving and changing moment to moment.
The atoms and molecules are constantly moving.
The whole building you're in,
The world outside,
The streets,
The cars,
The people,
The trees,
All of these things are moving and changing moment to moment.
The cities with their buildings and roads,
Parks,
People,
All of these things are in a state of constant change.
The oceans and seas,
The beaches,
Deserts,
Forests,
All of these things are changing moment to moment.
Always moving,
Always changing.
Even the mountains and hills which appear to be so solid,
In reality are in a state of constant flux,
Moment to moment change.
Nothing within this world,
Within the universe,
Stays the same even for one moment.
Everything changes moment to moment.
So again,
Allow that conclusion to come down from a thought to a feeling,
More around the center of the body rather than the head.
And rest your attention with that feeling.
Rest your attention with that feeling of constant change in the whole world,
The whole universe.
And then bring your attention into the mind itself and see how our minds also are always changing and moving.
Thoughts,
Feelings,
Emotions,
Memories,
Plans.
Mind is always changing,
Always moving.
Never stays the same even for one moment.
Constant state of flux,
Moment to moment change.
Again,
Let that sense of the mind changing moment to moment become a feeling,
Not a thought.
And be with that for a few moments.
And then take all of these things,
The mind,
The body,
The world around us,
And dissolve away the solid,
Permanent,
Unchanging appearance of everything.
Dissolve it into a state of constant change.
Let everything dissolve into that moment to moment change.
Nothing staying the same,
Not even for a moment.
Dissolve that appearance,
That fixed appearance away,
And see everything in the nature of moving,
Changing,
Constant flux.
And again,
Letting that be a feeling,
Focusing on that feeling of constant change.
Be with that for a few moments.
And then finally,
We can conclude that since everything changes all the time,
There's no purpose or need for us to be overly upset with difficult things because they'll always change.
And neither should we hold on to tightly depositive things because they'll change as well.
Instead,
To be happy,
To be secure,
We go with the flow of change.
We be the change rather than fighting against it.
And then we dedicate our practice.
May this be the cause to lead ourselves and all other living beings out of every suffering.
And may it be the cause to lead all living beings into complete happiness.
Thank you for your practice.
