Get yourself comfortable in a lying down or seated position,
Somewhere where you feel like you can have a tall long spine,
A soft neck,
Relaxing the shoulders,
And see if we can connect to a belly breath,
Guiding the breath down into the belly.
We're going to start our meditation of nothingness by bringing awareness to the three stages of breathing.
We have the inhale,
We have a pause at the top of the inhale,
We have an exhale,
And then we have another pause at the bottom of the exhale.
So without trying to force any structured breath rhythm,
See what you can do to just become aware of those sections of the breath,
The inhale,
Pause,
The exhale,
And the pause again.
I'm focusing on this pause.
When it arises naturally,
You might just get a tiny taste of it before it slips over the edge of the breath and turns into an exhale,
Or get sucked back up into the inhale,
These tiny points of contact with the pause.
And we can imagine the pauses of the breath as being moments of infinity,
Moments of stillness,
Moments of the void,
Where we can truly connect to nothing.
And in connecting to the nothing,
We connect to everything,
Because within space everything is held.
And so it is with Brahman or God,
The universe,
These spacious containers that hold all of creation.
Releasing the focus on the breath,
And helping the awareness to the physical body by noticing the sensations that are at the surface,
Of your consciousness,
Of your awareness.
You might feel into different flavors that these sensations have,
Maybe some heaviness or density,
Maybe some sizzly lightness,
Bubbly textures.
And allow all sensations to be okay in this moment.
Using the exhale to release any resistance and any meaning-making that is coming from the mind upon these sensations.
Having connected to the physical body,
Which produces lots of somethings through the nerve endings,
Through all of the senses,
Through the processes inside and out that process stimuli.
Let's bring our awareness to parts of the body that are not connected to nerves,
So that we can experience that nothingness and give a rest to the nervous system.
Starting with the fingernails,
Contemplating the fingernails,
Guiding all awareness into the emptiness of the fingernails.
See what it's like to experience your being,
Your consciousness,
In a way that is beyond the nerve endings of the physical body.
And traveling that awareness into the toenails,
Seeing how you can merge more and more of your consciousness with the presence of the toenails.
Traveling that same consciousness into the hair on your head,
All of the thousands,
Maybe millions of hair on your head,
Or if there aren't so many hairs on your head,
Perhaps on your face,
On your eyebrows,
Or anywhere else on your body.
Guiding the consciousness into the hair.
Moving the awareness now to in front of the eyelids,
So your eyelids are closed.
You can bring the awareness to watching the screen of those closed eyelids.
Often it's a black space with kind of pixelated shapes.
You might see different colors,
Swirling,
Or visions emerging.
Without attaching to any of these visions that are being projected onto the screen of the eyelids.
Just guide the awareness to connecting with this black space,
This empty space.
The Chidakasha,
Or the inner sky,
Upon which the impressions of the mind are screened.
Connecting to that sense of nothingness,
Emptiness,
The void,
And washing the nervous system clean.
The sensation of having to process impressions from the past,
From the day.
Washing the mind with emptiness.
Let us now produce our own impression,
Our own image,
Into this empty space.
Bringing forth the image of a candle flame,
Still and strong.
Allow that image to become solid as it is produced from the void.
You can release the candle flame and travel the awareness down into the heart space,
Into the center of the chest,
The Chidakasha,
The empty space in the heart,
The spiritual heart.
The house of Brahman,
The house of God.
Connecting to this space as if it's hollow,
Filled with the infinite,
Filled with emptiness.
Allow the emptiness to wash your heart clean.
Whenever you're ready,
You can bring the image of a candle flame into this space,
And see it light up the emptiness.
The warm glow of this candle flame illuminates the entire internal body,
So that you can see the hollow space within the body.
Seeing the entire body as hollow,
The cave of the flesh around the hollow body.
Experience yourself as emptiness,
As nothing,
As the infinite.
Releasing any image of the candle flame,
Or any other visuals that came to your mind,
And experiencing the inner emptiness,
Reconnect to the borders of your physical body.
And travel out to the air around you,
Guiding your consciousness into the air surrounding the body.
Feeling your consciousness expand beyond the physical self,
Inhabiting the atoms of the air around you,
Expanding into the empty space.
Feeling the expansiveness of your consciousness.
Travel your awareness back to Chidakasha,
The empty space before the eyes.
And if it's not a strain for you,
Bring the eyes to the eyebrow center.
Shambhavi Mudra.
Eyebrow Gazing Mudra.
At the point of Ajna Chakra,
Connecting to the pineal gland.
And focusing the eyes in this way,
Stills the mind.
As the eyes are part of the nervous system.
A few breaths here.
And a few breaths there.
Bring your inner gaze now into the center of the heart.
Feeling your consciousness rest there.
And down to the navel,
The belly.
And finally,
Down to both big toes.
Aware of the borders of the body.
Scanning from your feet,
Up your legs,
Pelvis,
Abdomen,
Entire torso,
Back,
The arms,
The chest,
The throat,
And neck,
Shoulders,
And the entire head,
Face,
Eyes,
Ears,
Mouth.
And from the meditation of nothingness,
From the void,
Let us chant Om,
The primordial sound.
You can continue chanting for as long as you feel to,
Connecting to this vibration.
Whenever you're ready,
You can open the eyes.
