Welcome to today's talk Meditation Coaching for Enhanced Focus.

I remember the first time I practiced zen meditation and I was taught to count my breaths 10 to 1 and this seemingly simple practice was challenging but once I allowed myself to relax into just concentrating on the counts and the breaths I found this to be a really healing and rejuvenating practice and so focus really became an energy to connect to that allowed me to find my center.

It empowered me to heal and it really encouraged me to want to learn more about meditation.

There's this idea we have that focus is hard.

Do you ever tell yourself that like I need to focus I need to focus and and then there's this feeling like it's so hard to do it that you have to put so much effort into it.

How many of us carry this collective belief?

Have you noticed the times when you have been focused when do you get really zeroed in on something and probably during those times you lost track of time.

You lost track of even yourself maybe you forgot to eat you forgot to meet somebody because you were so focused on what you were doing.

So think of when those times have been for you.

Are they random activities?

Is it a time of the day that evokes that feeling of focus for you?

Just being aware perhaps it's something that you're really passionate about and you're interested in you're curious and it brings through that energy of focus for you.

Focus feels good.

It doesn't have to be hard and we can even suggest to our subconscious brain that being focused is easy.

I can be focused.

I can do this.

I can focus my energy.

Tell yourself that focus is totally accessible to you at all times.

I can be focused.

It's good for you.

You've probably noticed those times that you have been focused and when you're complete how you felt afterwards.

It's rewarding.

It empowers you to feel motivated and satisfied.

At the end of the day I know for myself when I've been focused for a period of time I feel like I really did something.

That sense of completion and it's not just about getting things done and productivity but that feeling of focus of being completely present and engaged.

Those times when you've been focused and you felt totally connected in the flow.

Some of you know I like to call it flocus because you're in a flow and it's like a focus.

A focused flow and it feels so good on a very deep level.

It feels amazing.

What do you want to focus on?

What have you been intending to focus your energy on?

Because you may have noticed that there's always this little shift before you get your energy to focus.

Whether it's sitting down for meditation or doing something that you've had a strong intention around.

There's this energy of resistance that starts to come up that that starts to pull on your energy.

Like oh no don't go there because focus is ultimately transformative.

It has a transformative power.

So have you noticed that when you go to focus someone calls you.

Something pulls on your energy and your attention and just become aware that this can sometimes happen.

That the resistance arises.

That there'll be a competition for your focus,

Your attention,

Distractions,

Plenty of distractions.

Whether those distractions are even arising within you.

What are your priorities?

It is very difficult to have focus when we don't know what our priorities are.

Getting clear.

It's not selfish.

It's self-focused.

And are you willing to commit to your focus?

Are you willing to commit?

There is this energy of commitment that arises when you're ready to focus that I am going to do this.

This is happening.

There's some of your willpower that goes into that.

There's a difference between letting things happen and making things happen.

We can intend our focus no matter what happens.

So we can hold both where we're intending that focus but we're still letting things happen as they happen.

But we get to choose our focus and that is very empowering.

So give yourself the gift of focus.

Decide what you want to focus on and let yourself focus on it.

Commit to it.
