Three ways meditation supports successful DEI diversity,
Equity,
And inclusion.
Meditation is a practice that helps you discover higher states of being such as calm and peace.
It also promotes a sense of relaxation and focus.
The purpose of meditation is liberation,
To live as one's true self.
There are numerous benefits to meditation and there are qualities you can learn as a result of practicing stillness every day.
Here are three core qualities you can learn in meditation that supports diversity,
Wellness,
Equity,
And inclusion.
The first quality is that meditation helps us to be more open-minded.
When we are in our practice,
We become aware of what's arising in the present moment and we become aware without judgment.
Our intention is to accept what is,
To be open and accepting.
When hard things arrive like difficult emotions or stress,
Our tendency can be to resist it,
To push it away,
Deny it.
However,
In meditation we're consciously aware what is happening,
That inner desire to resist what is.
One can take this a step further in their meditation practice and become compassionately aware of themselves and what's happening in the present moment.
Compassion is one of the most heightened states of awareness we can experience through a dedicated meditation practice.
So cultivating an accepting open mindset is one of the first core qualities.
The second quality is self-awareness.
Meditation is a practice of raising one's own awareness,
Awareness of our thoughts,
The stories we have,
Our emotions,
Our feelings,
Our physical body.
The more aware we are of ourselves,
The more aware we can become on a subtle level such as our unconscious bias and judgments that we may carry unknowingly.
The more aware we are of our own selves,
Of our emotions,
Our well-being,
The more we become aware of others as well as our environment,
Our personal relationships and dynamics.
This awareness serves both ourselves and others in finding better collaborative solutions that are inclusive,
Fair and accessible to everyone.
The last skill one can learn through meditation is listening.
Meditation helps us develop deeper listening skills and while many of us might believe we're strong listeners,
We can always work on developing the skill of listening to others.
Listening to others without interrupting,
Thinking our own thoughts and what we are going to say.
Listening by giving another our full presence and attention.
Listening is a state of receptivity.
We can listen and listen beyond what's just being said.
When someone is communicating a difficult challenge or emotion,
Deep listening can be a way to release tension and stress and invite in natural resolution without too much talking or interference.
When people feel heard and seen,
They feel validated and understood and that's healing.
Listening can create really strong breakthroughs in understanding,
In our own connections and in groups and communities.
Listening is a deeply powerful way to increase the bond between people,
Between workers and help cultivate connection,
Empathy and community.
These are the three ways that meditation supports successful DEI initiatives.
Cultivating an open mind,
Being self-aware and fostering deep listening.
Thank you.
Namaste.
