Lotus Flower
by Stressfit
An insightful intro leading into a guided meditation that promotes the signicance of spirtual beauty of the lotus flower.
Transcript
Welcome to another Stress-Fit Meditation.
As one of the most revered spiritual symbols,
The lotus flower is held sacred by many cultures and people throughout the whole world.
The main premise of the flower is that the lotus rises from muddy waters and blooms as a brilliantly pure,
Gorgeous flower.
For this reason,
It tends to represent hope,
Rebirth and renewal.
The lotus is also thought of as a symbol of human consciousness on the path to spiritual enlightenment.
In Buddhism,
The flower represents enlightenment.
When the flowers are closed,
It represents the time before a Buddhist finds enlightenment,
And once the flowers bloom and the plant blossoms,
It represents teaching enlightenment.
Just as this sacred flower goes through some muddy,
Dark experiences before it blossoms,
So does the human spirit before it can let go of the things that stand in the way of reaching enlightenment.
Without going through the sometimes very difficult lessons of being human,
Like the lotus in the mud,
A person would never be able to reach higher states of consciousness,
Like the lotus when it blooms.
It's for this reason that the lotus flower also represents spiritual development.
We cannot teach true spiritual potential without going through hardship and struggle.
It is the dark cycles of life that help us grow into a more fulfilling life.
The human experience is based on dualism,
And the polarity of life means that we must experience both good and bad,
High and low,
Day and night.
It's only when we dance through the darkness that we truly appreciate the light.
If you are going through some dark times in your life,
Just remember that not only will it pass,
But it's all just an experience for you to grow and progress through to the light.
The Lotus Meditation is about full acceptance of your life as it is right now in this present moment.
Not trying to change anything at all.
Not trying to achieve anything at all.
Not regretting anything at all.
Knowing that life has you on a powerful journey to discover your own inner lotus,
The self,
The truth that dwells in your heart.
Layer by layer we peel away life experiences to allow the lotus to blossom to its highest potential.
I ask you now to get comfortable in your position.
Head neck and shoulders in one straight line.
Maintain a nice straight back throughout this practice.
Hands on your knees in any mudra or palms facing up if you wish to lay down for the practice.
Gently close your eyes and mouth.
Now is a good time to start taking in deep breaths.
Breathe in through the nose.
Sigh and release through the mouth.
Let go of the outside world a little more with each exhale.
Taking in full deep breaths.
Sighing and releasing all the air out of your body.
Feel your body starting to relax with each new breath.
Now let your breath go.
Reach your breathing into nose breathing for the rest of the practice.
Breathing in through the nose.
Breathing out through the nose.
Just let your natural breath take place in the background of your awareness.
I ask you now to fully accept what is.
Do not try and change anything at all.
Just accept your body.
Accept your feelings.
Accept your life.
Do not resist or identify.
Just accept and let the sacred expression of life just be as it is.
If anything rises into your field of experience,
Just accept it and just allow your being to be still in full acceptance.
Surrender to what is.
Just let go of the equations from the outside world and only pay attention to your inside world.
Accepting.
Embracing.
Observing.
It is very easy to lose connection with the truth that dwells in our being.
The truth that we are all connected to a higher source of power and oneness.
The truth that we are only here as visitors to become experientially richer in order to grow and evolve.
When our personal reality becomes overwhelming and consumes our being in repetitive cycles of thinking and feeling,
We feel lost,
Scattered and lose the natural excitement we have towards life.
We shift our level of experience into a primitive state of survival,
Living in an emergency state governed by stress and anxiety.
Let's now move into a state of presence.
Bring your being into an intuitive state of experience,
Inviting peace and love into our experience.
Bring your inner lotus to blossom.
I ask you now to internalize your attention to the sense of your body.
Scan your body up and down for a few moments.
What do you feel like right now?
Now let's bring presence into each body part,
Starting with your jaw,
Mouth,
Ears,
Nose,
Nose,
Eyes,
Forehead,
Scalp,
Neck,
Throat,
Inside of throat,
Left shoulder,
Elbow,
Upper arm,
Lower arm,
Wrist,
Palm,
Thumb,
Second finger,
Third finger,
Fourth finger,
Fifth finger,
The whole left hand,
The right shoulder,
Elbow,
Upper arm,
Lower arm,
Wrist,
Palm,
Thumb,
Second finger,
Third finger,
Fourth finger,
Fifth finger,
The whole right hand,
The whole right arm,
The whole left arm,
Both arms together.
Now sense your chest,
Rib cage,
Abdomen and pelvis.
Sense your upper back,
Spine,
Lower back and sacrum.
Sense the front of your torso,
The back of your torso,
And the whole torso together.
Bring awareness into your left hip,
Left thigh,
Knee,
Calf,
Shin,
Ankle,
Top of the foot,
Bottom of the foot,
Left big toe,
Second toe,
Third toe,
Fourth toe,
Fifth toe,
The whole left foot.
Bring awareness to your right hip,
Right thigh,
Knee,
Calf,
Shin,
Ankle,
Top of the foot,
Bottom of the foot,
Right big toe,
Second toe,
Third toe,
Fourth toe,
Fifth toe,
The whole right foot,
The whole right leg,
The whole left leg,
Both legs together.
Sense the entirety of your body all at the same time.
Feel your entire physical presence.
Notice your body as a field of radiant sensation.
Now just feel the presence of your body as one big sensation.
Feel the presence of your body as one big sensation.
In your mind's eye,
Visualize a bright,
Transparent lotus flower.
And feel the lotus in your heart center.
Take your time.
Watch the blossom unfold slowly,
Each petal opening until it becomes a flower that encompasses your entire body.
Rest in the light of the lotus for a while,
Enjoying the image and the energy it invokes.
Now,
Channel your attention back to your breath.
Take in three deep,
Full breaths.
Breathing in through the nose,
Gently releasing through the nose.
If life feels overwhelming,
Just remember the lotus flower as it is the perfect representation of personal growth.
It provides a reminder that we are all spiraling towards a greater truth.
As we come to the end of our practice,
I will leave you with a beautiful piece of writing by Suzy Kassim.
Everything turns in circles and spirals with the cosmic hearts until infinity.
Everything has a vibration that spirals inwards or outwards,
And everything turns together in the same direction at the same time.
This vibration keeps going.
It becomes born and expands or closes and destructs,
Only to repeat the cycle again in the opposite current.
Like a lotus,
It opens or closes,
Dies and is born again.
Such is also the story of the sun and the moon,
Of me and you.
Nothing truly dies.
All energy simply transforms.
Namaste.
