This series explores the archetypal energies within the 22 cards of the Major Arcana (Tarot). Each card represents a phase of the spiritual journey of the soul. Each track in this series begins with some information concerning one of the archetypes and ends with a meditation to meet and embrace that archetype. The Hierophant, known as the High Priest in certain decks, is the masculine counterpart of the High Priestess. Often only the outer meaning of this card is read and the inner meaning is not seen. This archetype signifies both the outer structures of a religious path and also a connection to the inner mysteries of any spiritual path. The High Priest has access to the golden thread that unites all religious and spiritual paths as one.

5D Major Arcana,

The High Priest The Hierophant,

Known as the High Priest in certain decks,

Is the masculine counterpart of the High Priestess.

The term Hierophant is a combination of two Greek words,

Hero meaning sacred and Phanin meaning to bring to light.

The High Priest assists in creating enlightened structures that enable every ritual and ceremony to have true power.

The High Priest calls to you to go beyond traditional rigid structures,

To find new structures to enable the spiritual path you're on.

The High Priest is an initiator who connects you to the inner teacher,

The inner flame,

The inner guru.

The High Priest is the keeper of hidden knowledge and also the keeper of the inner sanctuary where is kept the sacred flame,

The flame of your higher self.

The High Priest advises you to seek your personal path of enlightenment,

To free yourself from suffering and unhappiness and all structures that cause suffering and unhappiness.

Your path is unique to you,

There is no general formulaic approach that fits everyone.

The High Priest reminds us that there are laws governing the earth plane and there are also spiritual laws governing the universe.

Meeting the High Priest is where you learn that life's experience is your best teacher,

You learn that you are the teacher,

That life also requires you to create strong structures in the form of protective,

Practical and energetic boundaries.

The High Priest reminds you to be in the present,

Releasing all clinging to the past or craving to the future.

The High Priest reminds you to find your place of spiritual refuge and community in the world,

Your true soul tribe.

The High Priest reminds you that you are like the sacred lotus flower,

Rising out of the mud constantly,

Reaching for the light.

And closing your eyes,

Taking a breath,

Connecting to the cycle of breath,

Remembering your previous journey with the High Priestess guiding you.

You met the Mountain King,

Who offered you many precious gems of different colours,

Diamonds,

Rubies,

Sapphires and more.

You accepted the gifts and bowing to the King,

You left to rejoin your two companions,

The guide sent by the Empress and your companion,

The Magician.

Meeting up with your companions,

You travelled down the path,

Away from the mountains,

Descending.

Uncertain of your next destination and the way forward,

You consult the High Priestess.

She says the next phase of the journey is meeting the Hierophant,

The High Priest,

The keeper of the sacred flame,

The protector of the great geometric temple.

Travelling with your companions down the mountain,

You then begin skirting along the base of the mountain for a few miles,

Until in the distance you see a temple of bright white marble and what appears to be rainbow crystal,

Shimmering in the sunlight.

The temple of white marble is octagonal and rises up to a great rainbow crystal dome,

Surrounded by eight rainbow crystal turrets.

In the sunlight the view is spectacular,

As the light reflects off the crystal dome roof and the surrounding turrets.

The great temple is bordered on one side by a large lake,

Holding many small sailing boats.

Around the temple,

Sprawling along one side of the lake,

Is a bustling town.

You journey to the temple,

Getting closer,

And as you approach,

You see many people are simultaneously entering and leaving the temple,

Through two large open bronze doors,

Some twenty feet tall.

Soldiers dressed in the livery of the Mountain King stand either side of the bronze doors,

Guarding the way.

You enter the temple,

Passing the guards with your companions.

As you enter the great hall,

You see it is large and richly decorated with crimson and golden drapes.

The domed ceiling of the temple is decorated with an inner layer of stained glass panels,

Forming into a large geometric pattern of many bright colours,

Spanning the entire ceiling.

As you enter deeper into the hall,

It is obvious there is a ritual or ceremony happening in the main hall.

At the front on the podium is a high priest,

Dressed in a red velvet robe and a golden crown,

Who is officiating.

The voices of many men and women are singing in a beautiful harmony,

Filling the air.

Their voices mingling with thick,

Sweet-smelling incense that drifts and also hangs in the air.

Not wishing to intrude,

You wait with your companions as far back from the ritual as possible.

The ritual continues,

Until eventually a bell is struck and the people begin to turn and leave.

The high priest sees you,

Standing at the back,

And sends a servant to bid you come forward and meet him.

The high priestess steps forward first and embraces the high priest,

As if she has known him for many years,

Which in fact she has.

The high priest turns to all of you and addresses you as one.

Welcome to all of you.

The mountain king sent word of your arrival in the kingdom and I was expecting you at some point.

This temple is dedicated to all the deities of this realm and he points to the many statues of various gods and goddesses around the great hall.

This is what most people see,

This is what most people come for,

But I want to show you something that most people are not privy to.

He turns and bids you and your companions follow him.

Through a door you enter a private area of the temple,

That quickly opens into a beautiful garden with high white marble walls.

Climbing flowering plants of many colours adorn the surrounding walls,

And at the far end of the garden is a simple circular marble building with a gently domed roof of marble.

You follow the high priest through the gardens to a small building.

You pass by a beautiful pool filled with blossoming lotuses of white,

Pink and purple.

At the door of the small building there is a young woman dressed in a robe of red and gold guarding the space.

As you approach she steps aside and bows to the high priest.

She nods to each one of you as you enter the building.

Inside the building is slightly dark and yet there is an altar in the centre and on the altar is a burning flame illuminating the chamber.

The space is just big enough for you all to stand relatively comfortably.

The high priest turns to you.

This dear one is the sacred flame that represents the light in every living being.

This is the sacred flame that represents the light of your soul.

The light of your higher self that eternally guides you,

That guides you forward,

Forward to union with source light,

Source energy.

The high priest bids you one at a time to step towards the flame.

You go first.

You step towards the flame as your companions wait behind you.

As you do so the sacred flame begins to expand and burst into a greater light.

And very soon a white flame begins to engulf you.

Perhaps you feel startled at first and then you settle into the experience.

The flame reaches deep inside your body to the very bones and blood and cells reminding you of the light within.

The light within every cell of your being.

The light that is always guiding you.

The light that is your true inner teacher.

The true inner guide.

The light that is a true guide home.

I felt as if the flame was able to burn through that which doesn’t serve, leaving me to bask in my true nature. What a powerful meditation. Thank you. 🌈🀍
