This practice is a meditation for parents with children who can find it difficult to sit down in silence to perform a more traditional meditation.

Meditation is a practice of being here and now and accepting what is without clinging or attachment.

That includes our children and all their questions that come along with it.

As we begin our meditation you may be sitting in a room with your children while they play or do schoolwork.

We set the intention to dedicate these next few minutes to our own practice.

But we also acknowledge the need to be with whatever is around us.

If that means interrupting children then that is okay.

We will meet this with present moment awareness.

So to begin follow your breath.

Hear what is happening around you and stay with the breath.

When you are interrupted keep with your breath.

Open your eyes and focus 100% of your energy on your child.

Continue breathing as you listen and acknowledge their time with you.

Not clinging to any past or future actions.

One way I like to engage with my child is to draw them close and have them sit with me in my lap.

I am feeling my breath and love.

When he is ready he will go off and play and do whatever he needs to do again.

I am going to sit back with my breath.

I am going to sit back with my breath.

Remember,

Any interruption is okay.

Keep our breath and focus 100% on anyone who talks with us.

We are completing our practice.

After that,

We bring ourselves back sitting and still without breath.

Slowly bring yourself back to the moment.

Begin to feel the room around you.

Wiggle your fingers and toes.

That brings us to the end of our meditation.

Feel free to bring this calming feeling to the rest of your day.

Thank you for this. It was my first time to meditate with eyes opened and yet I was able to find peace and calm while watching over my child. Bookmarking as I know I will be using this for multiple times more.

This meditation is so nice. I just was looking (and still am) for empty nesters & how to deal with letting them go to make their own place in the world. Thank you

This is so helpful to understand that interruptions from children are ok in meditation. I didn't know how to deal with that previously and so struggled to fit in meditation at home knowing I would be interrupted so this has been invaluable in helping me practice daily. Thank you.

So nice to remember that our practice can include interupptions as long as we focus 100%. Great mediation!

This is great! Minimal talk, beautiful, calming music and wise reminders. My 3 year old twins recently stopped napping every day which put a damper on my prime meditation time and I've been struggling with this challenge, especially due to the interruptions. Thank you for the new perspective!
