The Art of Concentration This meditation is an invitation to concentrate the mind.
This exercise strengthens the mind and allows us to have deep spiritual experiences.
Concentration is a skill that anyone can develop.
You can do this simple exercise for a few minutes during the day when you feel there is too much chatter in your mind.
Before we begin this meditation,
I would like you to think of any four of your eternal attributes.
To give you an idea,
I will share mine.
1.
I am pure light.
2.
I am free.
3.
I am eternal.
4.
I am connected to the divine.
The above four work really well.
I invite you to use them if you can't think of any others.
During this meditation,
I will use these four eternal traits.
Make note of them again.
1.
I am pure light.
2.
I am free.
3.
I am eternal.
4.
I am connected to the divine.
Just for a few moments,
Rest your eyes on any point in front of you.
It could be the corner of a bookcase or table.
Or a point on the wall.
With a relaxed gaze,
Focus on that point.
You are not thinking of doing anything in this moment.
All you are doing is gently focusing on the point in front of you.
Now take a deep breath in.
And exhale that breath.
While inhaling,
I want you to silently repeat the word peace.
And as you exhale,
I want you to silently repeat to yourself the words deep peace.
Repeat silently.
Peace as you inhale.
And deep peace as you exhale.
Again.
Peace as you inhale.
And deep peace silently to yourself as you exhale.
Peace as you inhale.
And deep peace as you exhale.
Peace as you inhale.
And deep peace as you exhale.
Keep your gaze on that point in front of you with a soft focus.
As I count to three,
You will go into a deep state of restful alertness.
One.
You're getting relaxed and still and your mind is beginning to feel alert.
Two.
You're getting more relaxed and the chatter in the mind is beginning to subside.
Three.
You're totally still and your mind is calm and concentrated.
In this state of restful concentration,
You accept and affirm to yourself.
I am an eternal spiritual being that has no beginning,
No end.
I am pure light.
I am free.
I am connected to the divine.
Again,
With a silent,
Concentrated mind,
You quietly repeat these affirmations to yourself.
I am an eternal spiritual being that always exists.
I am pure light.
I am free.
I am eternally connected to the divine.
If your mind wanders at any time during this meditation,
Just gently bring it back and start from the first affirmation and then go down the list.
Remember,
Every time your mind wanders,
Start from the beginning.
Silently keep affirming your eternal nature for the next few minutes.
I am an eternal spiritual being that always exists.
I am pure light.
I am free.
I am eternally connected to the divine.
Softly and gently come back as I count.
One.
Beginning to return now with your mind totally relaxed and alert at the same time.
Two.
You're feeling joy and with a smile,
You're ready to take on the adventure that is your life.
Three.
You feel wonderful and ready to shine your light on the world.
Aum,
Shanti,
I am peace.
