Today I want to share about a topic that has been on my heart and on my mind really for much of my life.
It has been very poignant the last few years and I dare say that this topic is probably one of the most important topics for us collectively.
And the topic is sovereignty.
So we can hear that word and we might know what it means,
We might not know what it means.
It can have different connotations,
Different meanings.
Sometimes you hear the word used with monarchies and royals and that's not the context in which I'm using it.
Sovereignty in a nutshell is knowing who you are,
What you're here for,
Being laser focused on that,
And not letting anyone or anything pull you off of your path.
That's really what it is.
To me it's a very spiritual concept indeed.
But I want to give a little bit of my background.
I grew up in a very religious family and although I am no longer religious there's,
I am deeply spiritual,
But there's so much about that that's good.
One of the things that I took away from religion,
That really I learned to change because of religion,
Is to become more sovereign.
Whenever we're a part of any group,
Whether it's a religion or a political party or maybe a gender or a sexuality,
Whenever we're a part of any group there's a lot of pressure to buy into group think.
To think and believe exactly what everyone else in the group thinks and believes.
And when I as an adult left religion,
One of the things that I really decided to change was to rely less on group think.
I decided I don't want to outsource my thinking,
My discernment anymore.
I want to find what I believe,
Find what resonates as truth from within.
And I've really striven to do so,
Especially more and more over recent years.
What I see out in the world is a lot of conformity and polarization at the same time.
You see it in the political realm,
It's blatantly obvious there.
Oh I'm this political party and therefore I just buy wholesale everything that this political party says and thinks and believes.
And I don't have to think about it too much.
I just kind of go along with it and then I get angry at people who have a different opinion on a in a different party.
But we also see it with anywhere there's groups.
Anywhere there's groups.
I identify as part of this group or that label is an identity for me so I buy into what everyone else with this label believes as well.
I see a lot of danger in that.
I see it's something that's been common to humanity for a long time,
But really truthfully when I get into my heart and soul I hear the divine saying to us,
Hey it's time to evolve beyond that.
Now I'm not saying it's bad to be a part of a group at all.
We need community.
And I'm not saying it's bad to hear what other people in your group think and believe.
What I am saying is that it is so vital however you identify or whatever group you consider yourself a part of.
It is vital,
Crucial to your well-being and our collective well-being as humanity that we all start activating that innate gift of discernment.
That we don't just buy into wholesale what a group we belong to thinks and believes,
But that we start to listen to the information that's presented with to us and then we weigh it against that inner discernment meter.
There's an inner knowing.
Now some people are really in tune with their discernment and know who they are,
What they're here for,
What they're doing,
And they're not gonna be swayed by anyone else.
But a lot of us have experienced our discernment and are really good at ignoring it.
How many times have you met someone,
Had a bad feeling,
But you ignored the bad feeling and you regretted it?
Maybe you got into a toxic relationship or you got swindled or cheated on a business deal.
And if you had just listened to that gut feeling you had at the get-go,
You could have avoided it.
I think those are good things when those happen because they give us the opportunity to know,
Hey there really is something deep inside of me that really does know and discern.
That maybe even can sense into the future a bit.
What I'm suggesting is that we all really get in touch with that part of ourselves.
That discernment.
Start to trust it.
Stop outsourcing our critical thinking and start bringing it back within ourselves.
This is vital to our spiritual growth,
Collectively and individually.
And being a sovereign being does not actually lead to more polarization.
I find that the more sovereign I become,
The more I start to see the commonalities I have with all other people.
It's when I silo off into I'm part of this group and I'm part of that group that I tend to get a little more polarized in my thinking.
You see,
Being a sovereign being is very,
Very independent,
Yet it opens us to true vulnerability and connection and community.
So I want to do a little exercise with you.
We're gonna do just a simple reflection meditation to start flexing that discernment muscle within you.
I want to invite you to close your eyes and we're gonna do three clearing breaths.
We're gonna do it in an interesting way.
We'll do a double inhale through the nose and a big sigh out the mouth.
And I want you to send your inhales,
Sharp inhales,
To the navel as if you're pushing your navel outwards as you inhale.
It's gonna sound like this.
We're gonna do that three times together.
Sharp double inhale through the nose,
Sending the breath to expand the navel out,
Then a big clearing sigh out the mouth.
Empty all the air from your lungs and let's begin.
Inhale,
Let it go.
Two more times.
Inhale,
Let it go.
One more time.
Inhale,
Strong and sharp.
Let it all go.
With your eyes closed,
Let your breath return to normal.
And in this moment,
I am speaking to that heart and soul truth within you.
And may the divine power that flows in and through us all flow through my words to your heart and soul and activate strong,
Powerful,
That God-given discernment that is within you.
That discernment that helps you to know whether something is in alignment for you or not.
That whether something resonates as truth or not.
Whether someone comes across your path,
Has your best interests at heart or not.
In this moment,
Your discernment is activating,
Turning on,
And communicating with your conscious awareness so that your mind hears,
Feels,
Understands what your discernment wants you to know.
And at this time,
I ask that your heart and soul bring a topic to mind.
A topic to mind in which you have bought into groupthink.
Maybe blindly,
Without questioning,
Without activating discernment.
Something for which you have been greatly influenced by how others think can behave and operate.
It could be how you spend your money or what you believe about some scientific theory.
Or it could be about something political,
Something religious,
Something spiritual.
Or it could just be someone in your life,
Whether they're honest or not.
Take a moment to feel what is your heart and soul asking you to bring to your discernment and hear what your discernment has to say.
Beautiful.
Let me give you two ways to start to understand how your discernment speaks to you,
Because we all are different.
The first thing I want to do is just whatever your topic is,
In this moment I ask that your soul,
Heart and soul,
Give you a very clear,
Strong gut feeling about it.
Maybe it's a feeling that you've been on the right path or the wrong path.
Maybe it's a feeling that,
Yes,
Keep trusting this person,
Or no,
This person is being deceptive.
Take a moment to feel deep down in your heart and soul and gut.
Just notice what you feel.
Now I want to show you another way to go about this.
Might work better for you,
Might not.
I want you to think of a yes or no question you can ask around this topic of your heart and soul discernment.
Formulate it as a yes or no answer type of question.
Could even be something as simple as,
Is this good for me?
Is this for my highest good?
Does this resonate as truth?
Take a moment to formulate your question,
Keeping your eyes closed,
Staying very much within.
Now ask that question.
You may feel a yes or a no.
Sometimes in my mind I picture like a needle gauge.
The needle is in the center,
Yes is to the left,
No is to the right,
And I just watch which way the needle goes in my mind's eye.
You might feel it,
You might hear it within.
We are all different in the ways we pick up on our discernment,
But we are all capable of being so empowered,
Activated,
And blessed beyond measure when we listen to it and trust it and follow it.
If you haven't opened your eyes already,
I invite you to do so.
Maybe this is the beginning for you,
Starting to get really familiar with your own innate sense of discernment.
In order to be a truly sovereign,
Truly connected being.
Maybe you've been practicing your discernment for a long time and you want to know there are others of us out here doing the same.
Sometimes it's important to know you're not the only one who operates this way,
Feels this way,
Thinks this way.
There's one thing I've learned is that the best answers come from deep within,
From heart and soul.
And when we're looking externally for our answers always,
Or outsourcing our thinking and critical thinking to quote-unquote experts,
We can be very easily led down some paths that just aren't good for us,
Weren't good for our collective.
The more sovereign we become,
The more we activate that discernment,
Live in it,
Trust it.
Not only the more free we are,
The more connected we are,
The greater sense of vulnerability and community we can have.
May you be so joyously activated,
Empowered,
And blessed from this point forward throughout the rest of your life with your innate gift of discernment.
Until next time.
