What is deep listening?

To me,

Deep listening is being totally present with another person,

Or with oneself,

With our bodies.

Deep listening is a gift that has been totally overlooked and undervalued,

In my opinion.

Being totally present with somebody,

Giving them our full attention,

Is the most precious gift that we can ever give.

It's what we have to offer to any person,

To ourselves.

Deep listening is being an empty vessel,

Is not paying attention to anything,

Any thought that passes through our mind.

I'm not saying ignore it,

Not saying try and get rid of it.

I'm just saying we can notice the thoughts like birds in the sky.

And when we are totally present with another human being,

It gives them the gift of feeling heard,

Feeling seen,

Feeling safe.

After all,

Deep down,

That's what every human being wants.

They want to be seen.

They want to know that they matter.

An hour of being able to offer that space,

To sit quietly with nothing on our minds,

Literally just being with another person,

Priceless.

Priceless because it's so rare these days,

In today's age of fast scrolling,

Constant distraction,

Busyness,

Speed,

AI.

The world's moving at a really fast pace at the moment.

So giving somebody,

Giving ourselves,

Allowing the space to be with another and to be with ourselves,

Not paying attention to any thought that comes into our mind,

Opens up the channel of communication.

It fosters love and care and above all,

Connection.

So my invitation right now is to be with you first,

To listen to you,

To listen to your body.

Listen to your body right now.

Take a moment,

A few moments,

A few minutes.

What does it want to communicate with you right now?

And if you can do that,

Then you can offer another human being some quiet space.

Not even quiet space,

But just being with another human being when they're speaking to you with your full attention and creating that space.

It's like leaning back.

Imagine a physically leaning back and it allows the person you're listening to to relax.

And it's absolutely amazing what can come from sitting with another as they're being heard,

As they feel safe and they feel not judged and they're not being offered opinions or solutions.

They're allowed to explore and find their own answers,

Tap into their own wisdom,

Listen to what their heart,

Their soul wants to communicate with them because they've been given this gift from you.

I do hope that you take the opportunity to tap into this,

Experiment with it.

It's something,

Deep listening is something that has been life changing for me and many of my clients and groups of people that I have worked with and been in circle with.

Yeah,

I encourage you to try this out for yourself and just see,

Just notice what happens for you.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised and what happens for the person that you're deeply listening to.

Thanks for listening.
