This guided meditation, led by psychotherapist, author, and meditation teacher Shannon Algeo, introduces the powerful concept of momentum as the act of building energy in service of your purpose. The practice invites listeners to cultivate an internal momentum by focusing awareness on the body's energetic force field, starting with the physical experience of the breath. It encourages attendees to first tend to a "flame" of strength in the core (solar plexus) and then move attention to the heart center to access compassion and motivation, echoing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s advice to "Take the first step in faith" without needing to see the whole path. This meditation aims to help individuals feel the sensations of flow and purpose, encouraging them to step forward with power, courage, and compassion.

Hello this is Shannon Algeo and welcome to this momentum meditation practice.

Momentum.

Isn't that an amazing word?

I was thinking about my definition for momentum.

What does it mean?

Momentum is building energy in service of your purpose.

Each of us is called to move in a particular direction.

And when we build momentum we gather energy,

We gather strength,

We gather a force field of possibility.

To move in a particular direction is to act in faith.

Faith that your actions will lead you somewhere.

Faith that the effort will be worth it.

Faith that your calling is worthy of your attention and your presence.

So let's move into this practice together of building momentum through attending to your energetic force field,

The energy,

The presence,

The aliveness that's inside of you right now.

So let's begin by closing your eyes and finding a comfortable seated position or lying down if you prefer.

And begin to drop your awareness into the physical body.

Locate yourself,

Find yourself in the internal space,

In the internal plane.

Attending to your inner geography,

The landscape,

The interiority within you.

And whether you are building momentum towards a project or a pursuit or a purpose that you are already clear about or whether you are finding that clarity around where to go next,

This meditation will support you to increase the potency of energy within so you can build an internal momentum that guides you from the inside out.

Dr.

Martin Luther King Jr.

Said,

Take the first step in faith.

You do not need to see the whole staircase.

Just take the first step.

And momentum begins with taking that first step.

And so bring the awareness to the body breathing.

Notice the quality of the inhale coming into the body.

Notice the quality of the exhale leaving the body.

As the body inhales,

There is inspiration,

Which comes from the Latin,

Inspirare,

To breathe life into.

And as the breath goes out,

There is expiration,

Which comes from the Latin,

Expirare,

To breathe life out,

To expire,

To let go.

And so with each breath cycle,

There is a circle of wisdom and inspiration and inhalation and an expiration and exhalation.

A letting go of something old,

A releasing of attention pattern,

And the welcoming in of the new breath,

The new moment,

The new possibility.

And take a few moments here to be with the wisdom of the breath,

The sensation of the breath,

The flow of the breath,

Bringing your presence and attention to the navel center,

The core,

The abdomen,

The lumbar spine,

The solar plexus.

And imagine a tiny flame,

A fire,

Right at the center of your core,

Of your solar plexus.

And notice how the belly moves away from the spine as the body inhales.

And now the belly moves back towards the spine as the body exhales.

Imagine that the breath is fanning and tending to this flame at your center,

This fire,

This power,

This strength,

Noticing the sensation of the breath coming in and noticing the sensation of the breath going out.

And now gently bringing the awareness to the heart center,

The emotional power center,

The heart,

The lungs,

The ribcage,

And feeling the breath moving in and around the heart,

Coming home to your care,

Your compassion,

Your empathic superpowers,

And breathing into your caring self,

The one who has compassion,

Love,

And kindness for yourself and for others.

If it's comfortable for you,

Maybe place a hand or both hands onto the heart and take a couple of deep breaths into the movement,

The momentum,

The motivation that comes from your eternal,

Constant,

Steady heartbeat,

Feeling the power and potency and the presence of your own heart.

And then just noticing,

What does momentum feel like in your body?

Maybe when you are in flow,

When you are inspired,

When you are confident and courageous,

What is the experience of momentum in your own body,

The sensations of momentum?

Notice if you can feel and sense and experience a wave of momentum through your system right now.

Coming back to the inhale and exhale.

Take the first step in faith.

You don't need to see the whole staircase.

Just take the first step.

Just take the first step.

Momentum begins with the first step.

So just noticing the breath in your body right now as we move towards opening the eyes,

Maybe taking in a little detail in the room around you.

And we'll close by bringing the hands to prayer,

Taking a deep inhale into the whole body.

And exhaling,

Bowing the chin to the chest,

Honoring and acknowledging the wisdom and intelligence of your body,

Of your nervous system,

Of your heart,

And of your soul.

May you take steps forward with power,

Courage,

Compassion,

And purpose.

Thank you for joining me in this practice.

Many blessings.

Have a beautiful day.
