From Chez Pinata,
I'm Colleen Thomas.
This is Daily Magic for Peace.
Today we will ask for well-being to replace suffering.
So the only thing you need today is a difficult memory.
In choosing one,
I ask you to first take a moment and notice how resourced are you feeling right now.
Really be honest with yourself.
How is your heart?
How is your energy?
How is your nervous system?
If you notice you're feeling a bit frayed or a bit scattered or just a bit ouchy,
Then choose a memory that's not super difficult.
If you're feeling strong,
Maybe go for something a little harder.
We're going to be continuing our Tonglen series today,
Practicing the Buddhist technique of Tonglen,
Which is all about breathing in hardship and breathing out peace.
Before we do any work,
Let's take a moment and get grounded.
Notice what you're sitting,
Standing,
Or lying on and find the earth beneath you.
The earth may be under the soles of your feet.
It may be down under what you're sitting on.
It may be beneath what you're lying down on.
Just locate that earth.
Find your connection.
Let go of anything you don't need.
Release it to the earth.
Release anything you don't need from your space.
Release anything you might be holding for anyone else.
Release any worries or concerns that you don't need to put energy into right now.
When you're ready,
Join us at that pool,
That beautiful pool of clean,
Clear water,
The place where we start when we do Tonglen together.
Notice that we are all sitting around this pool with you.
We each have our own difficult memory.
You are not doing this practice alone today.
Take a moment to look into that clear water.
Notice that you can see all the way to the bottom of the pool.
Watch as we drop a stone.
Watch it float all the way to the bottom.
Notice the ripples on the surface.
Notice the light in the water.
Allow the clarity and the calmness of this moment by this pool to fill your heart,
To help you resonate at this frequency.
When you're ready,
Allow your memory to gently float toward you.
The time that was not easy.
Let's practice Tonglen together with this memory.
Begin by gently breathing in a little bit of the memory.
Breathe out compassion.
Breathe in what it was like to be there in that moment.
Breathe out love.
Breathe in what the time of day it was when that happened.
Breathe out peace.
Just together with me,
Continue breathing in another little piece of the memory and breathing out calm,
And another piece,
And more compassion,
And a bit more of that memory,
And some more love.
And now in your own time,
Just begin breathing in little bits of a memory,
Just slowly allowing it to unfold for you.
And breathe out compassion,
And love,
And calm.
And just allow yourself to go back to that time,
To whatever degree feels okay for you.
Breathing it in with compassion,
Witnessing,
Breathing out love,
And warmth,
And comfort for yourself in that moment.
Remembering you're not alone.
We're here with you.
Just trusting your intuition,
How much of that memory you'd like to work with right now.
Breathing it in,
And breathing out compassion,
Love,
Warmth,
Care.
What were you wearing?
Who was around you?
Just let the details come back to you,
All with this container of love,
And trust,
And care.
Breathing in,
And breathing out.
And know that while you're doing this,
You are honoring this moment in your past.
You're showing up for yourself in a deep and profound way.
You're saying,
I'm here.
I've got your back.
You're not alone in this.
Breathing in,
And allowing this moment to transform a bit,
Be witnessed a bit,
Through your breath.
Blending in compassion alongside distress,
Or hardship,
Or hard feelings.
Allowing the line to blur,
Allowing compassion to enter the scene.
Really deeply honoring this practice you're doing,
This healing you're bringing to this moment.
Breathing in,
And out.
And we're going to begin to transition out of this practice.
So join me in gently taking three final breaths to finish this practice.
First one,
Breathing in the situation,
The moment,
And breathing out witnessing and care.
Second to last breath,
Breathing in anything you might have missed that you'd like to heal or honor,
And breathe out love,
Compassion,
Witnessing.
And last time,
Breathing in a nice deep breath,
Honoring yourself for doing this work today,
And breathing out anything you're ready to let go of right now.
Anything,
Anything,
Anything.
And coming to a place of stillness.
Allowing the memory to drift away with great honor.
Allowing yourself to return to the pool with us.
Seeing the water,
Feeling the sun on your face,
Seeing the blue sky,
Feeling the air on your skin,
Feeling that calmness filling you again.
That peace,
That stillness.
Anchoring back in this moment of stillness at the pool.
Join me if you'd like in taking a couple of breaths to return gently to the space you're in.
Allowing your eyes to open if they've been closed.
Maybe wiggling your fingers and your toes,
Looking around with a very soft gaze.
Allowing yourself to gently return,
Gently,
Gently to this moment,
This part of your day or part of your night.
Just really honoring yourself for doing this work,
Having these few moments of Tonglen with us for a difficult memory.
May we all remember that the magic of Tonglen is just a breath away,
And that we can honor the hard moments that we see in ourselves and in the world around us.
May it be so.
Thank you so much for being with us today.
Your presence,
Your energy,
And your heart make all the difference in healing our world.
Remember to breathe today,
Breathe and expand,
And I hope you join us again next time.
Please consider inviting a friend.
