In this short guided meditation, Sarah Kelly walks you through a visualization exercise to create a safe space. Safe space visualizations offer an internal place of safety to go in your mind any time you need to reset or ground during a stressful situation. This can be particularly helpful during times of healing.

We're going to do a short meditation on finding a safe space.

If you're comfortable,

Close your eyes.

Get in a position seated,

Or if you'd rather,

You can lay on your bed or on the floor where your body is supported.

Take a deep breath in and out.

A deep breath in,

Pulling in to support the oxygen you need.

And out,

Letting go of things you don't need in this moment.

One last deep breath in,

Feeling your body,

The support of oxygen,

And out,

Releasing any tension,

Anything you need to let go.

Feel beneath you,

The chair,

The floor,

The bed,

Whatever is supporting you,

Noticing it.

Getting to leave any worries,

Any concerns,

Any thoughts,

Any thoughts,

Any thoughts,

Getting to leave any worries,

Any concerns,

Just set them aside right now.

You can come back to them later,

But put it on a shelf.

The next few minutes,

It's just you.

You start imagining,

Where is it that you feel safest in this world?

This could be a real space such as your bedroom,

Or your bedroom,

Or your bedroom.

It could also be an imaginary place,

Noticing this magical spot.

What does it look like?

Are there cushions?

Are you in the woods?

Are you cuddled up in a little space that feels like a little cave of the past?

Are there cushions?

Are you in the woods?

Are you cuddled up in a little space that feels like a little cave of happiness?

Are there any lights?

Maybe twinkle lights or candles?

What sounds bring you comfort?

Can you hear the ocean?

Birds chirping?

Silence?

Music?

Are there any smells?

Perhaps fresh cup flowers?

A cup of coffee?

Rain?

Is there anyone you want with you in your safe space?

Perhaps a partner?

A friend?

An animal companion?

Who's with you when you feel safest?

Hold that picture.

Notice the feelings.

What does safe feel like?

What do you feel like?

Just notice.

Enjoy this space.

Take it all in.

And then start coming back to the now.

Starting to notice your breath,

Not forcing it in any way.

Noticing the support beneath you,

Your chair,

Your bed,

The floor.

Take a moment to thank yourself.

Thank that vision that came to show you what safety means to you.

And when you are ready,

Open your eyes.
