Hello and welcome to today's meditation.
I'm Sarah Ritchie and I'm here to bring you today a meditation on grounding.
Life moves a little too fast for most of us and we spend time struggling with getting our lists done in constant activity.
And one of the most common things I hear is that I don't have enough time to meditate or I'd really like to meditate but I just can't settle my mind.
So let's take this time to begin a meditation practice or to continue your meditation practice today if you already have one.
Let's begin to settle in remembering as you do so that this is your time,
That this is your moment to be present and it is a practice.
So the more we return to it the easier it becomes.
Settling into your chair,
Your cushion,
Your yoga mat or perhaps if it is best for you and your body to lie down.
I would encourage you to straighten your spine and to allow the cushions to support you in such a way that you could stay easily where you are for the next bit of time.
Wiggling a little room,
A little space into your body,
Perhaps waving side to side slightly as you find your midline.
Taking in a nice long slow deep breath and as you do so exhaling fully releasing,
Letting go.
Allow your breath to begin to bring presence to you.
And as you continue to follow your breath as it comes in and as it goes out allow yourself to begin to become aware of the sounds around you in your environment.
Begin the sensations in your body allowing yourself to become present with all that is.
And take another nice long slow deep breath in.
And as you exhale settling and sinking in even more allowing yourself to melt into the earth into mother earth.
Feeling her grounding energy beneath you.
Allowing yourself to connect to the substance and the nourishment of mother earth.
Great Lady Gaia who brings us the life that sustains us.
Chief Dan George said,
The beauty of the trees,
The softness of the air,
The fragrance of the grass speaks to me.
The summit of the mountain,
The thunder of the sky,
The rhythm of the sea speaks to me.
The faintness of the stars,
The freshness of the morning,
The dew drops on the flower speak to me.
The strength of the fire,
The taste of the salmon,
The trail of the sun and the life that never goes away.
They speak to me and my heart soars.
Allowing your body to become connected to the earth.
Begin to listen first of all to your heartbeat.
Sense it.
Feel it.
Almost like a drum beat.
Bring you deeply to mother earth and the heartbeat of mother earth.
Allow yourself to feel your full presence.
The weightedness of your muscles,
Your sinews,
Your bones,
The structure in you that connect you to substance,
To earth.
And like in our uvaira,
The element of earth or prithvi brings us grounding,
Brings us substance,
Connects us through the soles of our feet to the richness of this earth.
And it's through this groundedness that we can find our balance.
The earth which enables us to connect to stillness and silence.
Begin now to take some breaths that will connect you more deeply to the earth.
And with each increasing breath,
Begin to imagine yourself connecting to the pine needles,
The twigs,
The tree roots.
And beginning in fact to grow tree roots out of each of your toes and allowing yourself to connect deep down into the earth.
Taking in a nice long slow breath in for a count of four,
Three,
Two,
One.
And now exhaling for five,
Four,
Three,
Two,
One.
And now breathing in for that count of five,
Four,
Three,
Two,
One.
And exhale for a count of six,
Five,
Four,
Three,
Two,
One.
As you feel that grounding breathing in now.
And exhaling.
Breathing in,
Taking that full breath.
And as you exhale releasing,
Relaxing,
Connecting deep down into the earth,
Feeling the weightiness.
And now allowing your breath to fall into a natural rhythm,
Whether that's breathing in for a count of four and out for a count of five or in for five and out for six.
Allow that exhalation to be just one touch longer than the inhalation.
Allow it to bring you grounding,
To connect you to earth,
Mother Earth.
And as you continue to follow your breath,
With each breath allow yourself to become even heavier,
Even more present,
Even more grounded.
A native proverb says,
Listen to the wind,
It talks.
Listen to the silence,
It speaks.
Listen to your heart,
It knows.
Allow yourself to connect now to your heart and to that heartbeat of Mother Earth,
That deep connection within we have.
Following your breath,
We're going to go a little deeper.
This time following the mantra,
So Hum,
So Hum,
Which means I am all that is.
So Hum,
So Hum.
Say it with me once out loud,
So Hum.
And now whisper it softly,
So Hum.
And heading now into stillness,
Repeating the mantra effortlessly,
Silently.
And if you drift away to thoughts,
To sounds,
Or physical sensations,
Just gently and effortlessly readjust and bring yourself back to So Hum,
So Hum,
So Hum.
So Hum,
So Hum.
The mantra may speed up and it may slow down.
It may become louder or softer,
Even become jumbled or distorted.
No matter what arises,
Just allow yourself to bring back your point of focus,
Drifting softly and effortlessly back to So Hum,
So Hum,
So Hum,
So Hum,
So Hum.
When I ring the chime,
Just sit gently with your eyes closed,
So Hum.
So Hum,
So Hum,
So Hum.
You you you you you so hum you can stop repeating the mantra and just allow yourself to sit and soak in this energy of grounding of inner stillness and silence hum hum hum hum hum hum hum taking the time to come back very slowly and gently trusting that you will bring back from your meditation with you whatever it is that you most need whatever insight whatever peace whatever grounding and just allow that to happen naturally and gently and let's seal in the energy of this grounding meditation together by chanting OM the hymn of the universe that grounding vibration take a nice long slow deep breath in and then we'll chant OM one time OM I hope you've enjoyed sharing this grounding earth meditation with me today and that you continue on your journey to take time for yourself every day to invite grounding to invite growing your roots deep into the earth to invite a practice of stillness and silence from which to enter the world it was my great pleasure to share with you today and I look forward to meditating with you again once again this is Sarah Ritchie of inner-om-wisdom.
