Welcome to this meditation.
It's called the gap.
You might be wondering what this might entail,
But rather than explaining it,
I'm going to let you experience it for yourself.
So let's find a comfortable position.
Take a deep breath.
And exhale,
Closing the eyes.
Taking a moment to adjust to the darkness.
And checking in with your world,
With your thoughts.
In one word,
Maybe see if you can describe them.
Perhaps they are loud,
Busy,
Quiet,
Sparse or frequent.
And notice that this in itself is a thought process,
And that's okay.
In meditation,
We're not trying to flee our thoughts,
Because there is no escape door.
So why meditate?
Perhaps to learn how to witness the thoughts without involving ourselves in them.
Interacting with every thought can feel exhausting.
And the more we engage with thoughts,
The more crop up and snowball,
Until we can find ourselves living more in our thoughts than in our true self.
So here's where the gap comes in.
See if you can spot the space between the thoughts and experience that gap.
Most people are unfamiliar with this stillness,
And it may feel very short.
Again,
That is okay.
I'm going to give you some time to explore the gaps.
No need to control anything,
Just spot them and experience them.
As always,
Calm,
Slow breaths can help us in this process.
