Natural Awareness Meditation is a guided practice of focusing attention in this present moment. We resist the habititual and unconscious pull toward ruminating about the past or planning for the future by gently and repeatedly catching ourselves in instances of distraction and returning, releasing that attention back into focused attention of this present moment.

GONG Welcome to this meditation on natural awareness.

Let's begin.

Find a quiet,

Comfortable place to sit.

Position yourself in a way that your bones are supporting the muscles and you don't need any effort to remain in one position for the whole exercise.

To do this,

Try keeping your back straight and gently supported with your shoulders relaxed and dropped and your chin gently tucked slightly toward your chest.

Take three slow,

Easy,

Deep breaths to relax and let go of whatever burdens you're carrying and allow your eyelids to gently close or partially close whatever makes you more comfortable.

Take a moment to remind yourself that you're bringing not only attention but kind attention to your experience and to yourself.

Now bringing your awareness to everything that you can experience in your surroundings.

Feel the temperature of the air on your skin.

Notice the sounds around you listening to the symphony.

Become aware of what's going on in your mind in this moment.

Observe the thoughts as if they were soft clouds floating across the sky of your mind.

Don't pull the thoughts in to engage them.

Simply allow them to drift by.

Noticing any deeper feelings or emotions as they may arise.

You're not trying to change any of this but simply observe and hold it in your awareness.

Acknowledge that you are not your thoughts or feelings.

You are something far deeper than that.

Now turn your attention to awareness itself.

Become aware of your own awareness.

The knowingness that lets you perceive all this.

The inner luminous spaciousness that holds together all the sensations,

Feelings,

And thoughts that make up your experience in this moment.

Experience your awareness with your awareness and notice how calming and peaceful it feels.

Now gently rest your mind in this place of nourishing stillness.

Let yourself be that stillness.

Focus your attention on your own awakened state.

Experience your awareness with your awareness and notice how calming and peaceful it feels.

Resting your mind in this place of nourishing stillness.

Become that stillness.

Now gently notice your breath.

Cool air coming in through your nostrils.

Warm air going out.

Breathing in,

Breathing out.

Breathing in,

Breathing out.

Slowly and gently open your eyes,

Returning relaxed and renewed,

Ready to begin again as it is.
