Hello and welcome.
I wanted to quickly talk about the way that we talk to our bodies.
I wanted to talk about this because I found that my self-talk towards my body hasn't been very positive lately and I was feeling ill.
I was feeling inflamed.
I was feeling,
You know,
Like I was retaining water or whatever.
So I was looking at all of these things that I could do to help myself and of course it's a lot of expensive supplements and drastic diet changes and all these things that I already kind of knew I needed to do but then I had sort of this download or epiphany or whatever you want to call it and I realized that all I actually have to do is talk to my body.
And I know that that might sound a little bit crazy but hear me out for a second.
Our subconscious and our our body,
Our parasympathetic nervous system,
It's always working for us in the background and any time that you have some sort of inflammation response it's not because your body hates you.
It's not because it's going against you.
It's because it's trying to save you.
It's trying to protect you.
So in my case,
And I think this is a case for a lot of people,
I had a lot of stress and so my body was holding on to all of the fat that it wanted to hold on to protect me in case I needed it in the future because it was saying,
Oh she's saying that she's stressed out.
Maybe she's in a famine or maybe she doesn't know she's gonna have her next meal,
You know.
I know that we know these things but I'm trying to give a different perspective.
Every single thing that our body does that seems like it's doing to make us sick,
That makes us angry with our body,
No why are you doing this to me?
Sabotage.
It's not because it's broken or wrong.
It's just responding to the language that we are communicating to it.
It's not speaking English necessarily or Spanish.
It's speaking emotions.
It's speaking stress levels.
We give it a signal and it responds and it's like did I do a good job?
You know,
You're like I'm so stressed and it's like here let me protect you.
I'm gonna give you a ton of cortisol and then we're like why did you give me cortisol?
So I think my point is if you look at your body sort of as a separate thing,
Almost like a separate person,
And you and you see that it's always always there no matter what,
It's always trying to do its very best job to try to help you.
How would you treat it?
As a person,
How would you treat somebody who's their whole life goal is to help you and protect you?
How would you treat that person?
Would you always say you're doing a terrible job?
God you're making me so ugly.
You're making me so fat.
You're making me so sick.
No,
You would say hey thank you so much for trying.
I think I'm not communicating what I need clearly enough.
Like you're trying but you're kind of getting it wrong.
Let me communicate a little better what I would like you to do.
And in this case what that looks like is doing breathing exercises saying hey look body,
I'm not stressed.
I'm calm.
Look at this breathing exercise I'm doing that shows I'm calm.
You know what I mean?
Doing breathing exercises,
Maybe putting your face in ice water to stimulate the vagus nerve.
Just the little things that you can do to help your body know how to act in order to protect you and in order to keep you healthy.
I think that that's more important than the supplements and the diet to a degree.
Do you even,
Speaking of supplements and diet,
Once you really think about your body as somebody trying really really hard all day and night to protect you,
Are you really going to want to sabotage its efforts?
You're going to feel kind of bad.
If you know your body's trying so hard to balance all of your blood sugar and all of your,
I don't know,
Your liver and your enzymes and everything,
All your hormones and your chemicals,
It's not as easy to eat junk food.
You feel bad.
Not guilty.
You just feel like you're disrespecting your body by doing that.
You're like oh my gosh,
The efforts that you're making to keep me healthy are wild and I'm just totally disregarding it and just shoving all this sugar into my face and I know it's going to throw you off and you're I think that when we look at our bodies as something to love and care about and respect and almost like there's somebody that are there for you,
Like if you're somebody who feels lonely and alone all the time,
You're not alone.
I know this is crazy because I'm making it sound like you and your body are two different things but like depending on who you ask,
Maybe you are a soul and a body but even just psychologically if you think about it as two things,
You're not alone.
You have your conscious mind and you have your subconscious mind and your physical body that's kind of doing its own thing all the time and that's always there for you.
It's always doing its best for you.
I was very very sick for 10 years.
My whole 20s I was really ill and it was easy to think why are you doing this to me?
Why are you doing this to me?
All I want to do is be healthy and be happy and be like my friends and be able to eat what I want and go do what I want and you're just ruining me.
You're destroying my joy and once I really realized that wasn't the case,
I had cortisol levels through the roof because I told my body that I was stressed.
I destroyed my microbiome with antibiotics my entire life.
I did so many things to tell my body how to act and then when it really acted that way to try to save me,
I was upset and furious and blamed my body and in the end once I started to realize my body was my friend and to really realize how precious and sweet my body was,
I just started thanking it all the time.
I just started telling my body what a good job it was doing and thank you so much for navigating this life with me.
This is really hard and I know and I'm trying to help you out with better signals but in the meantime even if you are overreacting and you've got it wrong,
You're really really trying and thank you,
Thank you,
Thank you.
You're precious to me.
I love you and honestly it wasn't until I started to treat my body with such kindness and respect that it started to respond and anyway I just wanted to make this talk for you so that you could maybe change your perspective on your body if you were having struggles with your health or you know something like that where you were down on your body or down on yourself.
Just remember,
Please remember how precious and amazing your body is and it's just trying its best you know.
It's your best friend.
It's trying to help you help it help you and if it gets it wrong come at it with grace and appreciation.
I'm also going to be doing a kind of body affirmation talk,
A body thank you talk and I'll be releasing that soon and yeah if if that's something that you think will help you just to listen to it as you go about your morning,
Getting ready for your day,
I think it'll really help to sort of remind you and reprogram your brain to being grateful for your beautiful beautiful precious body.
That's all.
Thank you so much.
