Welcome to this practice,

Today's the day,

As I notice.

My name is Ruben.

This moment is a sacred moment,

Tuning into the sound of the bell,

Allowing it to fixate your experience.

I am here for me,

I choose this,

Then I lose this,

But forgetting this,

Forgetting myself is part of the journey.

We disconnect,

So that we can reconnect.

May this practice be an avenue for reconnection to myself and for myself,

Me first,

And in so,

This energy will be available for those in my life that I care about.

As I choose me first,

I choose to be here for me,

I choose to be here now.

As I choose me first,

It feels different to start with,

It can take a little getting used to.

As I choose me first,

I gently recognize that life is difficult,

And that in acknowledging this,

I am worthy of self-care.

As I choose me first,

I gently recognize that life is difficult,

And that in acknowledging this,

I choose to hold myself lightly.

As I choose me first,

I gently recognize that life is difficult,

And that in acknowledging this,

I choose to be okay with not being okay.

As I choose me first,

I choose to let myself off the hook when I slip up.

As I choose me first,

I let go of regret,

Because I know that given my level of consciousness I had at that time,

I was doing the best I could.

As I choose me first,

I accept myself just as I am,

Because deep down,

I know that I deserve this.

As I choose me first,

I choose to accept myself with a pause and a gentle half-smile from time to time.

And so it is.

The sound of the bell certainly transports me. ‘Me first’, profound and meaningful words that have changed my life. It didn’t happen overnight. I began doing it hardly believing anything would happen, but slowly repeating it as a mantra I began to believe it. Now, even during times of acute emotional distress I practice the three N’s ( notice, normalise, nurture) I recognise unhelpful thoughts. I still feel hurt or upset but somehow by nurturing myself I can hold myself lightly. These experiences no longer pull me down. I can still find joy and meaningfulness in life. It was not a quick fix, but I promise it works. Thank you Reuben 🙏

Dear Rueben you're a wonderful teacher and have taught me so much in the past year and the present. I can never mind my mind when I need to (which is a lot) love myself deeply and hold myself lightly. My life has been tough but beautiful too and it's good to accept it all.
