This is a body of work called Never Mind Your Mind,
The conveyor belt of the mind.
Our minds rarely stop,
A constant flow of activity always buzzing,
Just like a conveyor belt.
In today's busy world,
Filled with endless tasks and distractions,
The voice in our head is there on top of it all.
The thoughts on that conveyor belt just keep coming.
Some of them can be useful,
They help us plan,
Create and solve problems.
Imagine planning something exciting like a holiday,
A thought that brings a sense of joy and anticipation.
But brain science tells us that most of our automatic thoughts are not helpful,
They're just noise,
Background clutter.
Think about your day so far,
How many thoughts have been buzzing in your mind?
We have up to 60,
000 each day.
It's a bit like having a conveyor belt inside our heads.
Imagine it,
A long,
Busy conveyor belt with hardly any space on it.
Thoughts,
Words and pictures in our heads pile on relentlessly,
Moving towards you.
Many of us believe we can push away unwanted thoughts,
Banish them for good.
But the harder we push against these thoughts,
Or the more we dwell in them,
The stronger they become.
And this is because what we fight,
We strengthen.
What we resist,
Persists.
And what we cannot be with,
Will not let us be.
Now imagine a different approach.
Instead of pushing thoughts away,
Or becoming overly consumed by them,
Picture yourself watching the conveyor belt,
Letting it run.
Thoughts come and go.
You don't need to engage with all of them.
Some of them,
The helpful ones,
You can pick up and use.
Maybe a thought about something meaningful,
Like connecting with a loved one,
Or working on a task that you care about.
As you focus on what matters,
The unhelpful thoughts on the conveyor belt can pass by without taking up your energy.
In this way,
The conveyor belt keeps running in the background,
But it no longer consumes you.
You save your time and your energy for the little things that matter in life.
You're no longer a prisoner of the conveyor belt.
You're the observer,
Calmly choosing.
You might like to imagine this conveyor belt with boxes.
Upon each box is written,
Helpful or unhelpful.
Most of the thoughts that you see on this conveyor belt have the unhelpful label upon them.
This is part of the human condition.
Science shows us that the conveyor belt has a negativity bias.
We explore this in the full Never Mind Your Mind course.
What are you noticing right now on your conveyor belt as you listen to this?
What's it like to observe the conveyor belt rather than clutching on or pushing away each unhelpful box that's upon it?
I choose to embrace the growth of my consciousness by allowing this affirmation to settle within,
Nurturing me just as I am in this moment.
Every single time I notice an unhelpful thought simply as a thought,
My consciousness evolves just a little more.
The conveyor keeps running.
It never will cease.
But I am the watcher,
Observing in peace.
The conveyor keeps running.
It never will cease.
But I am the watcher,
Observing in peace.
The conveyor keeps running.
It never will cease.
But I am the watcher,
Observing in peace.
