Join us for a discussion and breathing and mantra exercise. The chance to explore doing just one thing at a time, instead of feeling pressured to accomplish many things all at once. If you can allow this concept to take a bigger place in the way you do things, you will feel calmer and more at ease. You will also do things with a deeper sense of accomplishment and not having to redo things many times because your attention will be completely focused from beginning to end, not just bits and pieces.

Hello,

My name is Rebecca Gala-Jones,

And I'm joining you today from Atlanta,

Georgia.

And today's meditation is about doing one thing at a time.

Interesting concept,

Right?

Because we're not really encouraged to do that.

We're encouraged to multitask.

We are encouraged for productivity and for success to do many things all at the same time.

And how many times have you been in the mode of making dinner,

Talking on the phone,

And doing a number of other things internally in your head all at the same time,

Only to cut your finger or burn the soup or whatever it is that you were supposed to be doing.

And all of these other things just made that one task so much harder,

And you weren't able to complete it with any level of efficacy.

So if we could just give ourselves that little reminder,

We don't need to try to accomplish many things all at one time.

Possibly throughout the course of the day,

We will accomplish many things.

If we can think about it also in blocks of time,

Where we have these moments that are dedicated to specific tasks,

And then during those times,

We don't do anything else.

We just make the soup.

We just talk on the phone,

Or we just enjoy eating.

Because most of the time,

For most of us,

When we are sitting and eating,

It is not anything that is even remotely meditative.

It's just this thought of getting some fuel and getting on to the next thing.

So if we could start to just slow down and first and foremost,

Introduce the concept that we are worthy and it is okay to just do one thing at a time.

So first,

Just begin by breathing,

Leaning into your breath,

And find a place where you would like to do this.

Whether it's in a seated position,

A place where you're lying down,

You can be standing up.

You might be seated in your car,

On a break from work,

Just allowing yourself a moment where you can tune in to you.

So as you close your eyes,

Just take a nice scan of your body,

And then also of your mind.

Is your mind racing?

And it very well might be.

Is your body,

Are there places that feel tight or tired or uncomfortable?

And there very well might be.

So first,

Acknowledge those sensations or feelings,

And then just begin to breathe a little bit.

And then as we begin to breathe,

We begin to internally repeat that concept to ourselves.

One thing at a time.

One thing at a time.

So as you inhale,

Think one thing,

Little pause at the top.

And as you exhale at a time,

One thing at a time.

One thing at a time.

Continue to breathe with that,

Introducing that concept,

Allowing it to take root,

Because the biggest part in all of it is recognizing that it is the best way to go.

It is the way that you will intentionally move and foster your relationships.

And more than anything else,

You will foster a deeper sense of self,

Feeling a little bit more content and at ease if you just allow yourself to do one thing at a time.

Stay with your breath.

We're going to take about five rounds now.

Just repeating that,

Pausing and letting it out.

Can you see that?

Yep.

Good.

Now you can let that very succinct and dedicated breath go and you can begin to notice what it feels like to introduce that concept,

To recognize,

To give yourself permission to simply do one thing at a time.

And when people come at you and the inbox is full and there are many text messages and missed calls,

Maybe just during the time that you've taken to do this simple meditation,

Decide,

You decide and you choose which one to go to first,

Which thing or thought or task needs your immediate attention and then start working down the list.

And we often think all of them do,

It's just not true.

Choose in accordance and alignment with what feels right to you and do one thing at a time.

I'll leave you with that for today.

There is a light inside of each of us and that light inside of me honors and sees so clearly the light inside of each of you.

Go in peace.

Namaste.

This is such a good way to explain how to break down the reasoning and then the execution of creating monotasking; especially for someone who's addicted to multitasking or uses it as a coping mechanism or as a result of their anxiety.

I have heard “one thing at a time” advice from others and from myself over the years. But learning the breathing mantra exercise brought this wisdom literally into me, inside! Thank you for the new IN sight👍🏼
