Hello,
My name is Rebecca Galla-Jones and I'm joining you today for a little guided meditation.
It's a way to start your day.
That's what we're going to call this one.
It's a way to start your day.
So what's the way to start your day?
So the way that I typically start my day is by waking up and meditating.
And I just sit up in bed and I use the So Hum Mantra as my way to meditate.
No frills.
Just sit up and start using that.
And so that's what we're going to do today.
We're going to start our day with this idea of solidifying I am.
That is what So Hum means.
So find a way to sit,
Right?
If you are still in bed,
Then stay right where you are.
If you feel more comfortable moving and if you do have a dedicated spot and that's where you like to be,
Well,
Why not?
I treat almost everything with lots of humor and smiles and laughter.
So you won't find a great deal of seriousness from me,
But you will find a lot of light.
So find that spot wherever it is and then make yourself cozy and start to breathe.
You don't have to manipulate the breath in any way just yet.
Just start to notice it.
The breath is life.
So as a long time yoga teacher,
I treat that.
It's prana yama.
So prana is energy and yama is the idea of balancing or restraining the energy.
So we're moving the energy around in our bodies as we begin to breathe,
Right?
So that is how we approach it more than anything in the yogic tradition.
And then that is something that you can use in every area of your life.
Just using the breath as a way to build into it,
To help yourself navigate it.
So as you're seated now,
See if you can begin to harness the breath a little bit.
And you might do that by drawing the air in through your nose and sighing it out through your mouth.
You might do that by pulling the air in through your nose and pressing it back out through your nose.
And that is a particular way of breathing that is also used very often in the yogic tradition,
Though it's not exclusive,
Right?
And settle in and find that breath and just let it resonate,
Let it move through the body.
Noticing that the inhale breath is the gathering energy and the exhale breath is the releasing and letting go.
Inhaling and exhaling and inhaling and exhaling.
And now we're going to introduce that mantra.
So as you pull the air in,
You're going to think to yourself,
So,
S-O,
Just like so what.
And on that exhale breath,
You're going to think to yourself hum,
H-U-M,
Just like the sound that we make.
So hum,
So hum,
So hum.
Keep softly repeating those words to yourself in tandem with your breath.
I'm going to leave you to it for a few moments,
Quietening my voice and then I'll come back and lead us out.
Now,
Very,
Very slowly.
Very,
Very gently just start to release the mantra.
You can continue on with the breath for a little bit longer and just let that sort of naturally wane and just notice.
Your mind might have gone all over the place.
It often feels a bit like a ping pong ball and that's okay.
We just keep observing,
Keep watching and keep meditating.
I'm Rebecca Galla Jones.
Let's take it one breath at a time.
See you soon.
