Supporting The Heart
by Radhe Lesny
At the center of your being, your heart radiates energy to your whole body. The heart is the center of your connection to yourself. The heart continually monitors the quality of connection and attachment. As children when there are breaks in connection with our caregivers this can create shocks to the heart. The heart then develops an armoring around it to protect itself. In this practice, we will bring in regulation to the adrenals and brainstem and then much-needed support to the heart.
Transcript
For this guided practice,
We're going to bring some regulation into the body,
Into the nervous system,
And then we're going to focus on the heart.
At the center of your being,
Your heart radiates energy to your entire body.
The heart is the center of your connection with yourself.
So finding a comfortable place to sit,
Or preferably if you feel comfortable to lay down,
And feel free to go ahead and close your eyes if that's comfortable for you.
And we'll begin by bringing our attention to our breath.
So just noticing the breath,
Just getting curious about your breath,
Letting it find its own natural rhythm.
And we'll welcome everything about you here.
We'll welcome all the different parts of you,
All your parts,
Your young parts and your adult parts,
Parts of you that just want to be quiet and rest,
And parts that may want to let you know things as you're doing this practice.
So everything is welcome.
So we'll begin just by noticing your feet,
Bringing your attention to your feet.
And I'd like you to notice the soles of your feet and your toes,
The tips of your toes.
And in your mind's eye,
See if you can look down at your feet and see where your feet are standing,
Imagining that you're standing somewhere on the earth.
Maybe you're standing on some grass or maybe on some warm,
Smooth rocks,
Or perhaps you're standing in sand or dirt,
Or maybe your feet are in the water,
The ocean or a river.
So just see where you find your feet at this moment,
If you can.
If that's not accessible to you,
Then just noticing your feet.
And then we're just going to allow that beautiful,
Solid quality of the earth,
That lovely earth energy to come up through our feet,
Up through your ankles,
And then up through your calves and shins,
Up through your knees,
Your thighs,
Your hamstrings,
All the way up into the pelvis,
That beautiful,
Supportive energy of the earth,
Always there supporting us and allowing your pelvis to connect with the earth.
And then just allowing your pelvic bowl to become receptive,
A bowl of receptivity.
And then allowing that beautiful earth energy to come all the way up to your heart now,
Just supporting the heart.
And just allowing your heart to be receptive to whatever might want to happen here today.
And we'll begin by heading down to the right adrenal gland,
Right on top of your right kidney at your back body,
Just a little below your ribs.
The adrenal on the right side is a little bit like a pyramid shape,
About the size of a quarter,
And it sits right above,
Right on top of that right kidney.
And so we're just going to bring support to the right adrenal gland.
It plays a vital role in keeping you safe.
And so we're just going to bring some care there.
That's it,
Just focusing on the right adrenal gland.
Maybe sending a ray of gratitude toward it for how hard it works to keep you safe.
And that beautiful kidney is right underneath it,
Keeping you healthy,
And they work together.
Supporting the right adrenal.
And you might find yourself drifting away and that's fine.
If at any point you become aware that you've drifted,
If you like,
You can just come back to focusing on the right adrenal.
But it's not necessary.
Your body is responding to my voice and doing exactly what it needs to do,
Whether you're aware of it or not.
And especially if you've done some of my other practices,
Then the body just ends up knowing what to do.
So we're just supporting the right adrenal,
The right kidney,
And really supporting the whole right side of the body right now.
It might feel like it's getting a little bit more spacious back there at your back body.
You might feel like you're more aware of your right leg and your right foot,
Your right pelvis,
Your sacrum on your right side,
The right lung,
The right shoulder,
The right arm,
The right hand,
And fingers,
Fingertips.
And you may not feel that way and that's just fine.
Supporting the right adrenal.
All right.
So we're going to gently make our way over to the left adrenal gland,
Right on top of your left kidney at your back body.
This adrenal is a little bit like a crescent or half moon shape.
Again,
It's about the size of a quarter.
It's just slightly higher up in the body,
A little bit tucked up under the respiratory diaphragm.
So we're going to bring that care now to the left adrenal.
Yeah,
That's it.
Supporting on the left adrenal.
Just giving your body a chance to digest whatever you've been experiencing as we slow down and support those adrenals.
Bringing in that safety to the nervous system.
And whatever you're experiencing right now,
That's what's exactly right for you.
Focusing on the right adrenal.
Again,
You might just send a feeling,
A thought,
A wish,
A ray of gratitude toward that adrenal.
Just wishing it well,
Thanking it for working so hard to keep you safe,
To keep you ready.
Supporting the right adrenal.
As we connect with the left adrenal,
And they actually work together.
The right adrenal and the left adrenal work together.
So as we're supporting the left,
The right is right there joining us.
And as we connect with the left adrenal,
We're connecting with your entire left side of your body.
You might begin to notice different parts of the left side of your body.
Just being curious and receptive.
Connecting on the left adrenal,
The left kidney.
All right,
So just taking your time,
We're going to really gently go all the way up your spinal cord now,
To the very top of the spinal cord where it meets the brain.
And we'll be at the brainstem.
So we're going to bring a little support to the brainstem.
It's right where the head sits on the body,
The atlas or the forinum magnum,
Right there.
So it's that soft area at the base of your skull.
Yeah.
This is the center of the autonomic nervous system.
Such an important area of your body.
We're just going to bring some care there now.
Connecting on the brainstem.
And we're working with the midline of your body here as we're at the brainstem.
As very,
Very young beings in our mothers,
We organized around our midline.
And sometimes something happens where it becomes difficult to do that.
And so as we connect with the brainstem here,
We're supporting that organization.
Perhaps repairing some of those places that didn't get to organize.
Yeah.
Those holes in the developmental platforms.
So just supporting the brainstem.
Bringing that care there.
Just like a mother does with a newborn baby,
You always support the baby's neck right where the brainstem is when they're newborn.
So we're just bringing that beautiful,
Gentle support there.
Connecting on the brainstem.
Yeah.
Maybe allowing it to rest down.
We're connecting with the vagus nerve here that goes to every organ in the body except for the bladder.
As we connect with the brainstem,
The vagus nerve lights up and supports all the organs and definitely begins to support the heart.
As we connect with the brainstem,
We're regulating your breath and your heart rate,
Your temperature,
Your digestion.
All righty.
And so we're going to move down to the heart now.
And we're just going to bring some support to the heart.
So we're actually going to come to the back of the heart.
There's a layer called the pericardium that surrounds the heart.
Yeah.
And then the mediastinum surrounds that.
So we're just going to come to the back of your heart,
Just bringing support.
At the center of your being,
Your heart radiates energy to your whole body.
The heart is the center of your connection with yourself.
So just bringing some very lovely,
Gentle support to the back of the heart.
That's it.
Just allowing the heart to open any amount that might want to happen.
The heart continually monitors the quality of connection and attachment.
That's it,
Supporting the heart.
Sometimes people like to imagine a little door on the back of the heart.
And if you like,
You can open the door and whatever you might want to let go of,
It can go right through that door.
Yeah.
Sometimes that creates a little bit more space.
Being at the back of the heart.
There's so many things that happen to the heart,
So many shocks to the heart when hard things happen to us.
And so the heart develops an armoring around it to protect itself.
And we honor that armoring.
And then we're just bringing support and care so that the heart can soften and open any amount that might want to happen today.
Supporting the heart.
Your own beautiful heart.
All right.
So we're going to move from the heart down to the backs of the ankles,
Just allowing your ankles to open.
Yeah,
We're going to come to the backs of the ankles and bring support.
And then whatever might be ready to move out of your body,
It might just go right through the soles of your feet,
The tips of your toes,
Back to the earth where it can transform.
Or maybe out through the palms of your hands or through your fingertips.
Or any way that energy may want to leave that you don't need.
Energy that's not yours,
Maybe it was never yours.
Or energy that you don't need right now that maybe you've been holding on to.
So just allowing for flow.
Yeah,
Focusing on the backs of the ankles,
A little bit on the outsides.
Yeah,
Just like a river flowing into the ocean.
Just allowing energy to flow down your body all the way out through your feet.
Supporting at the backs of the ankles.
Just being curious about what your body is doing today.
We know the body wants to heal and it can heal itself.
Or just bringing support to that process.
Focusing on the backs of the ankles.
Allowing your energy just to go down into the earth.
All right,
So we're going to rest for about a minute or so in a healing silence together.
Just letting what we did titrate in to your system.
Yeah,
So we'll just rest quietly and then I'll say a little something at the end to close our time together.
So let's just rest now in a healing silence.
We'll all relax.
All right,
So just taking all the time that you need,
You may wanna continue to sit or lay here for longer.
And if you would like,
You can go ahead and open your eyes if you're ready to transition.
Otherwise,
Just take more time just to rest and take good care of yourself for whatever you're gonna do next.

I cannot thank you enough. I try to listen to one of your recordings once a day. My practise evolving. Today I had a clear sense of holding my brain stem and when uncomfortable sensations arose I stayed present. I just wonder when holding my heart ( I imagine it in a hammock) do I try and sense it the centre of my chest or where it actually is on the left of my body? Or does it not matter?

This practise was amazing and I managed to stay awake. I love your Somatic practises but can never stay awake whilst listening. I had never heard of Somatic healing until last week when I found your page. I also didn't know the body stored trauma. My body has stored trauma, now I know. Keep up the excellent work. Thank you Radhe
