In this practice we will bring regulation into your nervous system by bringing support to the adrenals and the brainstem. This will provide a beginning foundation to be able to then support your grief. We will work with the heart which is the center of your connection to yourself and the place where grief is most often stored.

We're going to do a practice of somatic support for grief.

We'll start by supporting the adrenals and the brainstem to bring in safety and regulation to your system and then we will work with some grief.

So finding a comfortable place to sit or preferably to lay down and then if you feel comfortable going ahead and closing your eyes and just beginning to tune into the support at your back body here.

Just noticing the support of the place that you're sitting or laying at your back body and so we're going to start by coming to your right adrenal gland.

So that's at your back body a little bit above your waist sitting right above your kidney there on the right side.

It's a little bit like a pyramid shape about the size of a quarter.

So we're just going to bring our thoughts to the right adrenal.

Supporting the right adrenal.

Right adrenal.

Right adrenal.

Now just maybe allowing it to rest down on the kidney.

Those adrenals work so hard to keep you safe,

To keep you ready.

Right adrenal.

Right adrenal.

And whatever's happening in your body is just right for you right now.

You might notice some little movements at different spots in your body perhaps in the kidney adrenal area or you might be noticing something different.

And whatever you're noticing is just fine.

Alright so just taking your time we're going to gently head on over to the left adrenal.

So it's sitting just above the left kidney at your back body.

Just a little bit above your waist.

This adrenals just a tiny bit tucked up under the respiratory diaphragm and it's a little bit like a half moon or crescent shape.

Also about the size of a quarter.

So just bringing our thoughts to the left adrenal.

Supporting the left adrenal.

Yeah that's it.

Left adrenal.

Left adrenal.

You might notice some warmth in this area.

There might be some movements going up and down your spine.

Left adrenal.

Just bringing care to the left adrenal.

Right so just taking your time here.

We're going to gently head on up to the brain stem.

So that's at the very top of your spine where your spine meets your brain.

It's also just right there at the base of your skull.

Right where the head sits on the body.

It's called the atlas or the foramen magnum.

Yeah so just coming to the brain stem.

The center of the autonomic nervous system.

The fight flight and freeze.

Just bringing our thoughts to the brain stem.

Brain stem.

Supporting the brain stem.

Yeah you might notice some things happening in your jaw.

The hinges of your jaw.

Perhaps in your throat.

Maybe the throat's opening up a little bit.

Yeah we're connecting with the vagus nerve here.

Very important nerve.

When we connect with it,

It lights up and brings in safety and regulation into our system.

Brain stem.

You might notice some little movements going up and down your spine.

And again if you're noticing anything at all or noticing something different,

That's just fine.

What we're doing is working regardless of what you're noticing.

So we're gonna gently now begin to work with some grief.

So I'd like to you to think about something that you have some grief about.

And then we're gonna come to the heart which is the center of your connection with yourself and your body.

And often the heart is deeply affected when we have grief.

So we're just gonna bring some support to the heart here.

Bring our thoughts to the heart.

This welcoming whatever might happen for you here.

Everything about you is welcome.

All your parts are welcome.

Grief is welcome here.

Supporting the heart.

Heart.

Supporting the heart.

Just welcoming whatever's coming forward here.

Whatever you're noticing.

It's all welcome.

The heart can hold it all.

Even the heartbreak.

So we're just gonna gently head down to the feet for a moment.

Just coming to the soles of your feet.

The backs of your ankles.

Yeah.

Good.

And then we're just gonna now rest together quietly for a little bit.

Just resting quietly together.

And then just taking your time.

When you feel ready you can go ahead and open your eyes and just take really good care of yourself.

Thank you so much for doing this practice with me.

That was really powerful, I drifted off somewhere and can't believe it was only 16 minutes. Thank you πŸ™

I've done Radhe's somatic body scans multiple times. They work better for me than any other body scan meditation - my relaxation is deeper and more intense. I continue to return to this particular body scan regularly.
