This classic practice called nadis shodana or alternate nostril breathing will help you to bring about a sense of calm and balance, physically, mentally and emotionally. It is also a wonderful way to support nose breathing over mouth breathing. Many people breathe too much through their mouth, which, over time can have negative impacts on overall health and wellbeing. Having a dedicated practice where you are exclusively breathing through your nose helps to bring more awareness to nose breathing. This practice is taken from day 8 of my course here on Insight Timer 'The Breath - Heal Your Life From The Inside Out'

We're going to practice a breath called Nadi Shodhana or alternate nostril breathing.

This is a very classic nose breathing practice that comes from yoga.

So sit comfortably and take your right hand and bring it in front of your face.

Place your index and middle finger in towards your palm so your thumb,

Ring and little finger are pointed up toward the ceiling.

Take a deep breath in through both nostrils and then close your right nostril with your thumb and exhale out your left nostril.

Inhale through the left nostril,

Close the left nostril with your ring finger and exhale through the right.

Inhale through the right,

Close the right and exhale through the left.

Inhale through the left,

Close the left,

Exhale through the right.

Continue breathing like this for the next couple of minutes at your own pace.

Beautiful.

Now finishing your breath on your next exhale through the left nostril and once you've done that just release this pattern.

Breathe normally and simply observe.
