Hi there,
I'm Maggie from Qi and Gong,
And this is an exploration of the six healing sounds of a Taoist Qi Gong practice.
Sound is energy and vibration,
And we can use it to help create harmony within our bodies.
Each of our organs has a particular vibration,
And in Chinese medicine it's believed that physical and emotional disease stems from the organs.
Perhaps one or more might be off balance or out of Qi.
So this is a way we can tune them up.
We use sound to entrain and tune our organs.
It's ancient wisdom,
But it's supported by modern science.
So think of yourself as a symphony.
We'll start with the lungs.
So in Chinese medicine,
The lungs reflect the metal element within the body.
They're responsible for our respiratory system and our immune system in part.
So the sound that we make for the lungs themselves is a zzzzz sound.
This is also really helpful for people recovering from breast cancer.
It's thought to be very healing for breast tissue.
So you can place your hands across your body on the chest,
And we'll repeat this sound three times.
Take a deep breath,
And then on the exhale we'll make a zzzzz sound.
Now we're going to sing these ones because they relate to the physical organ themselves.
Inhale and another zzzzz.
Perhaps you can feel the vibration in your chest against your hands.
Let's do one more.
Inhaling.
You can repeat these sounds as often as you like throughout the day.
It's nice to do them before bed.
We're doing three today,
But you can do six or nine,
As many as feels good.
Now there's another sound for the lungs.
Each organ has a physical vocalised sound and a subvocalised or whispered sound,
Which relates to the emotional component of the lungs.
So by making the sound,
The idea is that we can transmute the negative emotions that are associated with the organs and alchemise them into a more positive feeling.
So the negative emotions associated with the lungs are grief and sadness and loneliness and depression.
And by making the sound,
We're hoping to alchemise those feelings into courage,
Righteousness and inspiration.
So the whispered version of the lungs sound is a sssssss,
Hissing like a snake.
So once again we'll do three.
Just inhale.
And another.
And one more.
Letting go of grief and sadness.
And welcoming in courage and inspiration.
Now moving on to the kidneys,
You can place your hands over your lower back,
The kidney area or just rest them in your lap.
The kidneys relate to the water element and they're responsible for our endocrine system and our bones and skeletal system and the joints.
And the sound for the kidneys is tree,
So C-H-R and then an E sound.
We'll do this three times.
Let's inhale.
Tree And again inhaling.
And one more.
Just taking a moment here and sending some gratitude to the kidneys.
Sometimes while doing this we can incorporate the inner smile.
Just taking a moment with each of the organs and smiling into them.
Sending positive and loving vibrations to help heal and nourish them.
Now coming on to the emotions for the kidneys.
The negative emotions we associate with them are fear and insecurity.
So making our sound we want to transform those feelings into that of gentleness and calm and peace.
The whispered emotion sound for the kidneys is choo,
So it sounds a bit like a whispering wind.
So let's do three of those.
Inhaling And another inhale.
And one more inhaling.
Taking a moment,
Just breathing gently.
Bring the hands round to the lower right part of the ribs.
We're moving on to the liver.
So in the body this is connected to our hormone metabolism and our detox functions.
Also connected to sight and vision in the Chinese system.
The sound for the liver is shu,
So s-h-u-u-u.
And here we're dealing with the wood element.
So there's also a connection with ligaments,
Tendons,
Fascia.
Most of us in modern day have some degree of what they would call in Chinese medicine liver cheese stagnation due to all the various stresses and strains and stuff that we have to detox and process on a daily basis.
So this is a really good one just for giving our liver a little bit of love and attention.
So we'll do three of the sounds.
Let's inhale.
Shuuuuuuuuuuu.
And another.
Shuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.
One more inhaling,
Just taking a moment here smiling into the liver.
And moving on to the emotions associated with the liver,
The negative emotions are anger and frustration,
Agitation and also envy and jealousy.
So we're hoping to alchemize those feelings and emotions that might still be lingering in the organ and change them into kindness,
Compassion,
Also creativity and generosity.
The whispered sound for the liver is a shh,
A very calming sound,
Good one to do if you're feeling angry or frustrated.
We'll do three of those,
So let's inhale.
And another.
And one more,
Inhaling.
Taking a moment here smiling into the liver,
Releasing anger and any frustration,
Welcoming in kindness and generosity.
Move the hands over the chest,
This time we're connecting with the heart,
Playing a key role in the circulatory system.
The sound for the heart is a ha sound,
So placing your hands crossed over on the chest will help you feel that vibration of the sound as it reverberates through your body.
We'll do three.
Let's inhale.
And another inhaling.
And one more.
Ha.
Thinking about the emotions that we can transform,
The negative emotions that can affect the heart are hastiness and impatience,
Cruelty or arrogance.
Also kind of anxiety.
Making our sound we want to transmute those feelings into those of joy and honour and love.
The whispered sound for the heart is also a kind of ha sound,
But it's a little bit more of a ha sound,
So H-A-W,
Like hall form.
And we'll whisper that three times.
Let's inhale.
And another.
And one more.
Take a moment here,
Smiling into the heart,
Sending love and gratitude.
Bringing the hands down and over to the left hand side of the ribs,
Connecting with our earth element and focusing in on the spleen,
Which is grouped together with stomach and the pancreas in the Chinese system.
So on a physical basis,
This relates to our digestion and assimilation of nutrients from our food.
The sound for the spleen is a who sound,
W-H-O.
We'll do three of them.
Let's inhale.
And another.
And one more.
Taking a moment here,
Just breathing gently.
The negative emotions that can impact the spleen,
Very commonly felt ones,
Worry,
Anxiety,
Overthinking,
Overanalysing.
So the idea here is to transmute them into fairness,
Trust and openness.
And it also is concerned with optimising our sense of intuition and manifesting,
So grounding our ideas into material reality.
The whispered sound for the spleen is spelt W-H-O-H.
So it's kind of like a who sound.
We'll do three.
Let's inhale.
And another.
And one more.
Just breathing naturally,
Taking a moment,
Transmitting love and gratitude to the spleen.
And having done the five Yin organs,
We move on to what's called the triple warmer.
So it encompasses an area from head down through the chest,
Down into the lower dantian.
And this sound is concerned with balancing our system.
Quite often when we're ill or stressed,
Heat will rise up,
Sort of collecting in the head and the heart area.
The idea is that we bring that heat back down into the lower dantian,
So the warmth should be collecting around that area,
Keeping the head and the heart a little bit cooler.
So this can be done with a hand gesture.
You can raise your hands so that the palms are facing down all the way to the head.
And then as you make the sound,
Just lower the hands slowly all the way down into your lap.
And the sound,
The physical sound that we make,
Is a He sound.
Let's do three of those.
Inhaling.
And another.
And one more.
And focusing on the emotional side of this heat rising up the body.
This manifests as stress or anxiety,
Often insomnia,
And the absorption of negative energy or other people's energy that often comes if we have a confrontation or disagreement or a difficult conversation.
So this is a good one to do if you're struggling to sleep or just generally to bring that energy down and cleanse your energy at the end of a long day.
So we can whisper the sound He for this one.
And you can do the hand movements as well if you like.
Let's do three of those.
Inhaling.
And another.
And one more.
Let your hands rest in your lap.
The perfect way to finish these is just enjoying a moment's silence.
After having made these healing sounds and vibrations that are healing your organs and your organ system.
Helping nurture and nourish the chi that flows around the body.
And done every day.
These can help mitigate some of the stress and strain that comes from feeling negative emotions and help improve the health and flow of chi to our major organs.
Let's sit for a moment and enjoy the silence.
