Okay,
So I wanted to do a quick meditation on just general feelings of discomfort,
Whether it's anxiety or anger,
Frustration,
Sadness.
Take a few deep breaths in.
See,
I'm dealing with my own discomfort,
And I didn't get the best sleep last night,
So I'm gonna be participating in this meditation as well.
Feelings of discomfort and pain,
Especially in the morning,
Can have a real strong effect on the day,
From the beginning to the middle to the end.
If we start off the day in feelings of annoyance or irritation or anger,
That's actually okay,
But if we let them influence us in our reactions,
Our thoughts,
Our decision-making,
Then it can cause a day of a lot more unnecessary suffering than would have been the case.
So the goal here is not to alleviate the irritation or to get rid of the discomfort,
Whatever it is that you're feeling.
The goal is to be more open and curious towards this feeling.
Instead of trying to get rid of the discomfort,
Allowing it to take over your body and your mind.
What does that look like for you?
Maybe finding where in your body you're feeling the discomfort.
For me,
I have a headache,
So I feel it in my head right now,
Specifically in my forehead.
But paradoxically,
I find that if I try to get rid of the feeling,
I actually just increase the magnitude of the discomfort itself.
It's important to know that your body and mind actually know how to deal with pain on their own.
They don't need you to intervene and try to get rid of it.
Thousands and millions of years of evolution has led our body to develop mechanisms and programs in itself to handle this pain and discomfort.
All we have to do is allow our bodies to take over and to trust that they know how to deal with the discomfort.
That's when we try to step in and take over our body's wisdom that the pain increases exponentially.
What we wanna try to do is create an atmosphere of openness towards the pain and discomfort.
Even thanking the pain for reminding you that you're alive.
You can't have pain if you are not alive and your senses are not well.
So interestingly enough,
I'm thankful for this headache.
Even though the nature of my mind would like to complain and say the exact opposite,
How could you be thankful for a headache?
Well,
I am.
It reminds me that I have a healthy body and healthy mind that send me warning signals when everything's go awry.
Once again,
The goal is not to get rid of the discomfort or the pain,
It is simply to learn to tolerate,
Allow and even welcome it into your life.
The reality is pain is a part of the human experience.
Trying to get rid of pain is just trying to get rid of a part of your humanity.
And unless you get rid of the entire human experience,
Then the pain does not go away.
But luckily enough,
Pain subsides.
This comfort does go away.
And other components of the human experience come into play.
Comfort,
Joy,
Love,
Peace,
Compassion,
Happiness.
These are all on the flip side of the negative experiences that you're feeling right now.
In fact,
The only way to prolong yourself from feeling those enjoyable emotions is by trying to control the negative emotions you have right now.
So just allowing your body to process the negative feelings you have is actually going to get you to the positive feelings quicker.
Acceptance can be incredibly counterintuitive,
Especially in the Western world,
Because we're taught,
You know,
Work as hard as possible,
You know,
Fix everything that's wrong immediately and that's okay for work.
But when it comes to our emotions and our bodies,
We need to make space and room and allow for the processes that our bodies need to heal themselves.
This is not a math equation.
Emotions are not a derivative or division or a complex problem to solve.
Your body's gonna solve the problem for itself.
Take a few more breaths.
Well,
I hope that you feel better,
Because I sure do.
Again,
The goal is not to get rid of any negative feelings,
But to simply allow them to be a part of our regular experience on a daily basis.
I hope that this meditation helped you,
Even just a tiny bit today,
To feel a little bit more positive and a little bit more hopeful about the experiences that are coming your way.
Namaste.
