Welcome to this meditation of mindfulness of sound with Peter Radcliffe.
Hi and welcome to this meditation on coming to your senses where we're going to focus on the sense of sound.
This is a great meditation practice that can be used at any moment during the day or even within meditations where you find that you're dealing with a distracting sound.
It's also fundamental because one of the important things of meditation is being totally in the present moment and our five senses only operate in the present moment.
So by being aware of our five senses we automatically bring ourselves into this present moment.
So when you're ready we'll begin.
Start by getting yourself comfortable and making sure that you feel well grounded and take a few deep breaths to relax your body and then become aware of all the sounds around you.
There is always noise around you no matter where you are.
Allow yourself to open up to whatever sounds there are.
We normally judge some sounds as pleasant and other sounds as unpleasant but for this meditation let every sound in without judgment.
They are after all just sound.
So be aware of each noise you hear and let each sound in and rest in the abrasion of that vibration of space.
If you are quiet you may even begin to hear the sounds from within your own body such as your heartbeat or your breathing.
Let the sounds be your meditation and allow feelings of sound to go right through your body.
Perhaps you even feel like you're floating in sound or that you're resonating along with the vibration of the sound.
Notice how each sound can take you deeper into a sense of absorption within the meditation so that all the sounds whether they're distracting or not actually help in your meditation practice.
Spend some time just being aware of the sound in this way staying in the present moment until you're ready to finish the meditation.
