Hello and welcome.

My name is Julie,

And I'm really glad you're making time for this parent break.

If your eyes are open,

I invite you to close them gently,

And let's take two breaths together to move from the outside inward.

We'll inhale,

Release.

Inhale,

Release.

Ah.

Back in January of 2023,

I started parent break to build time,

Space,

And community.

Time for you to connect with yourself,

Space for you to hear yourself think,

And a community of parents who are going through the same things you are.

I believed in it at that time,

And I believe in it even more now at the end of 2023.

Taking this time each week,

To share parenting tips,

Connect with those of you who attend the live,

And interact with those of you who watched and continue to watch the replays,

Has shown me the value of this meditation and journaling time for me and for you as well.

I'm grateful that you joined me.

I continue to believe that parenting is hard,

And it's way easier together.

It's not always easy to prioritize connecting with self.

Sometimes it's hard to do something just for us.

Michael Bungay Stanier suggests that one way to motivate ourselves is to find a for-the-sake-of person.

If connecting with self doesn't feel important enough for you,

Consider that when you connect with self for the sake of those around you,

You bring them a more patient and energized version of you.

Consider also that your actions model for your kids the way they need to take care of themselves.

If they see it,

They learn it.

Today we'll spend a bit more time reflecting back and looking forward to the year ahead.

You can come back to this meditation anytime you want to look back or set an intention as you move forward.

I invite you to get comfortable and let's inhale and release as we soften from the top of our heads down to our toes.

Dropping the tongue to the floor of the mouth,

Allowing shoulders to lower and our breathing to sink to the bottom of the ribcage.

Let's look back at the people who were valuable in your life this year.

Who helped you?

Who was there for you?

Who feeds your energy and helps you to feel safe and capable?

Next,

I invite you to explore,

Without dwelling or getting stuck in recurring thoughts.

Who in your life brings you down,

Limits your world,

And muddies your waters?

These people have value in our world.

They help us to identify and understand the learning we have to do at this time.

Part of this learning is how we will release them or the hold that they have over us.

Let's take a look at the actions and practices of our year.

Which habits and choices really helped you?

Which left you feeling energized and clear?

Which of these will be prioritized for the months ahead?

And which ones were draining or left you feeling weighed down the next day?

Which of these need to be released from your plans for the months ahead?

I invite you to join me in a few affirmations to set us up for today.

The next few weeks and the year ahead.

Sleep is important in our family.

We go to bed early enough to get the sleep we need.

I create ways to connect with my family,

Eye to eye and shoulder to shoulder.

I nourish my body.

I let go of and move beyond my old limiting thoughts.
