Welcome to this meditation to help take action towards a creative endeavor.
Firstly,
We'll spend a few moments settling in,
And then I'll ask a few questions for contemplation.
You're welcome to ponder on these,
Or have your journal and write if that appeals to you.
So please settle into your comfortable seat.
Today bring a sense of dignity and poise to your posture without being tense.
Breathe in and slightly tilt your chin up,
And as you exhale,
Lower it towards your chest.
Another breath in as you settle into the place in between,
And as you exhale,
Allow your eyes to close,
Or let your gaze settle softly at the floor in front of you.
And with your eyes relaxed and still,
Notice your breath,
And there's no need to change it in any way.
Simply observe your inhale and exhale.
Please pay particular attention to the sensation of breath at the tip of your nose.
Observe your breath in and your breath out.
Feel cool air as you breathe in,
And warm air as you breathe out.
Keep your attention on the sensation of inhale and exhale for the next few rounds of breath.
And if thoughts arise,
Simply guide your attention back to your breath when you notice.
Not changing or fixing anything,
Just take your time.
Relax,
Watch your breath,
Inhale,
Exhale.
I'm now going to ask you some questions.
They're in the first person,
So you may wish to repeat the question to yourself silently after me,
And then I'll leave you some time for contemplation before asking the next.
If you need a little more time to finish your thoughts,
Simply press pause and restart when you're ready to continue.
If you finish your thoughts,
Or if any of the questions don't seem to apply to you,
Come back to your breath as we did a moment ago,
And observe the inhale and exhale.
So the first question has two parts.
Are there any habits I have right now that detract from my creativity?
And what changes am I willing to make to reduce or remove the negative impact of these habits?
So for example,
If you know you spend more time than you'd care to scrolling posts on your phone,
Or scrolling posts on social media,
And that dulls your creative output,
What will you do?
Do you put the app timer on to reduce the amount of time that you're doing it,
Or remove the app completely from your phone or wherever you look at it?
Do you set parameters that you'll only look after you've done your creative process?
So bring to mind now what habit or habits you have that detract from your creativity,
And make a plan.
What changes are you ready and willing to make to reduce or totally remove their impact?
With the understanding in mind that practicing regularly will result in increased confidence,
Proficiency,
And progress.
Here's your next question.
What habit or action done regularly will allow me to practice my craft?
If you had several answers to the last question,
Pick the one that feels like it would have the greatest impact,
And let's make it concrete in nature.
When and where will you do it?
I'll give you a couple of examples of concrete plans.
I'll play guitar every morning on the porch while I enjoy my coffee,
Or I'll sit on the sofa before bed each evening and write two pages of free writing,
Or every weekday I'll do a pencil sketch while I'm on my lunch break in the cafeteria.
So how,
When,
And where will you take creative action?
And I'm assuming you've picked up this meditation today because you're ready to get going.
So one quick final question.
What am I going to do today to practice?
So if you've been journaling,
Highlight the important words and actions from your notes.
If you did this as a mental exercise,
Simply recall this practice with me now.
Remember which habits detract from your creativity,
And the change you're willing to make to reduce or totally remove their impact.
Now recall your daily creativity habit,
And commit to yourself to practice it for a whole lunar cycle,
Or 30 days.
Don't feel like you need to wait till the first of a month,
Or a new moon,
Or a new year.
Start today,
And finally commit to yourself that you'll take action today.
Now please allow yourself a few more moments in stillness.
Soften your forehead,
And if you can,
Allow a slight smile as you look forward to the process ahead.
Draw in an energizing inhale,
And release an easy,
Full exhale.
And remember,
Only time will tell what you can achieve with daily practice.
It's time to release the need for perfection,
And allow yourself to enjoy the whole process.
When challenges arise,
See them as a chance to learn something,
To do research,
Or to reassess your technique.
You know what you need to do.
So now it's time for you to take charge of a process.
Commit to your daily practice,
And allow your true potential to reveal itself over time.
Namaste.
