So find a comfortable seat and gently close your eyes or lower your gaze and take a few breaths bringing your attention to your breath.
Just drawing your senses inward.
And this meditation is going to be on choosing life.
Choosing life within our body.
Choosing life within our emotions and within our minds.
And so I want you to bring to mind something that might be troubling you at the moment.
Maybe it's something that no one else knows or maybe it's a situation that is more widely experienced like the global pandemic but something that is causing you to feel tense,
Stressed in some way.
Something that seems to hold your attention a little too often and pull you down.
Because what we want is to choose life where we feel alive and free,
Where we feel we exist within a place of light and life.
And so having brought that thing to mind,
I want you to now draw your attention to your body and how your body might be experiencing that,
Let's call it that tension.
Where are you feeling that tension in your body?
And just be aware of it at this moment,
Listening to it.
And then I encourage you to bring your breath to that part of your body.
If it's the whole of your body and you're not sure,
That's fine.
If it's a particular place that you can identify,
Then bring your breath to that place.
Otherwise bring your breath to the whole body and with your exhalation,
Just allow your body,
The tense part of your body to relax.
Allow those muscles to embrace.
So focusing on that exhalation as a way,
A means by which your body can just relax wherever that tension is held,
Whether it be generally or locally.
And we're now going to move to our heart space,
The space that we hold our emotions.
And that's anywhere really within your core,
Right up to your neck.
As you think of that tension,
That problem,
That stress,
How does it feel?
And where is that feeling within you?
Maybe you can find a location for it.
And when you're aware of that place,
Or even if you're not and it's just generally an emotional state,
However and wherever you feel you're experiencing that emotional state of tension,
Breathe into that place and allow the out breath to breathe out that tension.
Allow your emotions to relax.
Allow that exhalation to just lift and carry the emotional tension away from you.
And now let's bring our awareness to our minds.
And it's easier to articulate those thoughts.
What are the thoughts that you might have around that,
That issue,
That tension?
What are the things that you might be saying to yourself that are holding you down?
And once you've recognized them,
Bring your breath to those thoughts.
And with the exhalation,
Just allow yourself to let go of them.
Allow those thoughts that are unhelpful,
That are not bringing life to float away on your out breath.
And I invite you to picture a bird flying high,
Flying high in the sky.
Just visualize that for a moment.
A bird that's soaring,
A bird that is free,
A bird that is in the light,
In the sunlight,
Full of life and freedom,
Weightless.
And as you visualize that image,
Allow that sense of freedom and light and life to come to your body.
Invite that life and freedom into your body.
Maybe you can use the in breath,
The inhalation to breathe in that light and life to your body.
And then move to your heart space.
Again,
Remembering or visualizing the image of that bird that is light and free and full of life.
Breathe in that same light and life into your heart space so that your heart is filled with light,
With life.
And finally your mind,
Invite,
Breathe in life and light into your mind so that it feels expansive,
Free,
Unfettered.
And take five more breaths,
Breaths of life,
Breaths of life,
Breathing in those elements into your whole being.
And when you're ready,
You can allow the images to fade and gently open your eyes.
