One of our most precious and sustaining abilities is our capacity to utilize our imagination to change our physiology.

In this visualization,

I am going to invite you to enter a safe and nurturing space.

It could be in nature,

It could be somewhere you know in real life,

It could be a place that you only go to in your imagination,

But this safe and nurturing space is what I will refer to as your inner sanctuary and it is a powerful place for you to visit at any time of the day.

So consider for a moment that everything that is created on earth is first conjured in the imagination.

Our bodies don't know the difference between something we watch in a movie or that we imagine or that we experience in a real event.

So having an inner sanctuary is a way to viscerally change the channel inside of your body at any given point.

This is a wonderful resource for you to utilize and to practice with in stressful moments or just throughout the day to remember that you have access to this resource via your imagination.

So to rest in your inner sanctuary,

Take a few nourishing deep breaths.

Fill your lungs completely and exhale fully.

Feel your feet against the earth and feel the way that your body is in space.

Are you sitting on a chair,

Are you laying on a bed,

Are you standing outdoors,

Simply orienting your physical body to your environment as you bring your attention to the breath.

As you bring your attention to the breath you may find tension and you can invite that tension to release or simply bring your attention to the sensation,

Just being with what is.

And you can close your eyes if that's comfortable for you and imagine stepping into your sanctuary.

Again,

This could be a place that you know and love or it could be a place that is completely conjured inside of your inner landscape.

Open your senses to the experience of your inner sanctuary.

Notice the smells,

The temperature,

What sounds do you hear?

Sense the surface beneath you.

Fully immerse yourself in the experience of your inner sanctuary as if you were there in this moment.

Notice the feeling and the sensations in the body as you rest in your inner sanctuary.
