Turning On Your Clutter Radar
This meditation helps you turn on your Clutter Radar. That's the part of you that knows when something is clutter in your life. It's your discriminating ability telling you that a thing, activity, relationship, or belief is no longer serving you. You can trust it because it's your inner voice.

Hi,
This is Brooks.
Thanks for joining me.
It's good to be here with you.
Today we're going to talk about your clutter radar.
Your clutter radar is the part of you that knows when something in your life is clutter.
And by clutter I mean anything in your life that's no longer serving you.
That can be a tangible thing,
A person,
An activity,
A way of seeing the world.
And it doesn't serve you.
It inhibits you.
It holds you back.
Makes you tired.
It gets in the way of the things that you really do care about.
And your clutter radar is the part of you that discriminating ability that knows when something is clutter.
But something could not be clutter and then because we change all the time,
It becomes clutter.
Because it doesn't fit us anymore.
It fit us once,
It doesn't fit us anymore.
You know,
Emotionally,
Physically.
Or maybe it never did.
Maybe we brought it in to fill some hole in our life and it didn't work.
And it's just sitting there hurting us in some way or another.
So the clutter radar is a sense.
It's this feeling like,
You know,
This thing,
This activity I'm doing,
This really makes me tired.
Or when I spend time with this person,
I feel exhausted.
I feel drained.
You know,
When I put on this shirt,
I feel old or tired or ugly,
You know.
And it's like whatever,
It's that sense that something doesn't feel right,
You know.
And it's innate in all of us.
We all have this radar that's built in.
And we forget about it,
You know.
I mean,
I think most of us are taught from very early on that things are more important than us.
That we need things and activities to be happy.
That as we are isn't enough.
And you know,
We see this in commercials.
We see it over and over again.
We're indoctrinated to believe this through repetition of marketing,
Which shows somebody who's in some kind of pain,
Physical or emotional.
And they get a product or service and they're instantly better.
So it's natural that we believe that we're not enough and that things are more important than us.
But I call that into question.
And I don't believe that it's true.
And I think as we are is enough.
And once we start to question this belief that things are more important than us and we start to have suspicions about its validity.
We start really looking into it.
Then we start to wake up the radar in us.
And that clutter radar kicks in.
Like it's built in.
It's inside of us already.
So it's warmed up.
It's been given the freedom to do its job.
To look,
You know.
And you have a clutter radar in you.
It's there.
And so we're going to do a short meditation to wake up the clutter radar.
So it can assist you in finding and removing the clutter in your life so you can enjoy your life more.
So find a comfortable place to sit or to lie down and close your eyes.
And focus on your breath and your breathing.
Feel your breath come in and your breath go out.
Your breath comes in.
Your breath goes out.
It's very natural to breathe.
It's relaxing to notice our breath.
Our breath is an essential part of our life.
We need our breath to be alive.
So when we connect with it,
We connect with an essential thing.
An essential part of ourselves.
It feels very natural to breathe.
And you never have to question,
Is breathing part of my life or not?
Is that clutter or not?
It's like,
Oh yeah,
Breathing.
This is important.
So it's good to become familiar with something that's innate,
That's part of us,
Like as our breath is.
It becomes a role model for us to weigh the other things in our life.
A measurement stick.
So I'd like you to expand your awareness past your breath to the things in your life.
The things,
The activities,
The people,
How you see the world.
And see if there's anything that doesn't feel right.
You know how when you go to a store and you try on some clothing,
Sometimes something doesn't fit right.
You can just feel it in your body.
Or it doesn't look right when you look in the mirror.
There's this feeling like this is ill-fitting.
So using your awareness,
Your clutter radar,
That knowingness part of you.
And it can differentiate between what fits and what doesn't fit.
What's good for you and what isn't good.
Allow that radar to look around at your life and illuminate things that are ill-fitting.
And take some time with that and see what you see.
Okay.
Okay.
The great thing about your clutter radar is that it's your voice.
It's not somebody else telling you,
This is good but this isn't good.
This is you.
And you can trust your own voice.
And the more you check in with your clutter radar,
The stronger that voice becomes.
And becomes easier to trust that voice.
There's a lot of really loud voices out there in the world.
Some of them are very persuasive.
But none of them are your voice.
And this reconnection with this inner knowing,
This inner voice,
This clutter radar.
It's very powerful.
It makes you become very self-reliant.
It makes things a lot simpler.
And now that you've woken up your clutter radar,
It's been given life.
It's got its purpose.
It's not there to do its job.
And so you may be in your closet.
Like if you're something aware and you notice something hanging up like that.
That doesn't feel good to me more.
That feels tired to me.
Or you look in your refrigerator and you're looking for something to eat and you see something like,
Yeah that particular food,
Uh-uh,
It's not working for me.
Or you're in the middle of some activity and you have this feeling like,
You know,
I don't really like doing this.
You'll be surprised.
And it has a life of its own.
You can check in now and then and say,
Okay,
Clutter radar,
Are you there?
Anything I should know about?
If that comes up spontaneously,
Great.
But I think you'll start to notice the clutter radar spontaneously coming in and telling you,
Giving you information.
And you can trust that.
You can trust it.
So you can come out of the meditation,
You can open your eyes and look around and stretch.
And congratulations.
I'm very excited for you.
I,
You know,
When that clutter radar wakes up,
Your life really changes around.
Things become a lot better.
And you may be surprised at some of the things that you discover to be clutter in your life.
And once you discover them,
I encourage you to begin to let them go,
To let them,
To remove them from your life.
And you'll feel a sense of freedom and energy that really makes you feel alive.
So thanks for spending time with me.
I wish you the best.

Thanks for this. I felt like I was already extremely awAre of this but seeing this as a specific meditation reminded me I’m allowing overworking myself to be a GIANT clutter that’s not serving me. I can draw the line. I was using clutter as tangible items. Makes sense. Thanks again!
