Yoga Nidra - Rooted In Self
by Kate Rock
This 30 minute practice, 'Rooted in Self', invites you to reconnect with the part of you that is unshaken by change - the deep, grounded awareness that lives beneath roles, thoughts, and emotions. It’s not about becoming someone new. It’s a soft return to who you already are. Whether you’re seeking peace, emotional healing, rest, or reconnection to your inner voice — this is your space to settle and be held. Let go. Be still. And rise, rooted in Self.
Transcript
Welcome to this practice of Yoga Nidra.
Come to lie down in stillness,
Wherever you are and with whatever you have close to hand,
Be supported and find comfort.
Take time to create your most comfortable place for today's practice.
This practice has been created to explore and deepen a sense of self.
Not the roles we play to the outside world,
The thoughts we think or the emotions that come and go,
But the more essential presence,
The deep-rooted sense of self,
Not shaken by change that doesn't need to strive or try or do anything to prove itself,
But simply is.
This is the part of you that remains steady in the midst of life's movements,
The stillness beneath the surface,
The awareness that watches without judgment.
As we journey inward,
You're invited to rest in that grounded place within,
And you may find that what you've been seeking outside has always been quietly present within.
This is not about becoming anything new.
It is a gentle return to what and who you already are.
So we begin.
Allow the body to rest completely.
Let go of all physical tension.
Lying on your back,
Your legs stretching out straight,
A little wider than hip width,
Let your legs become heavy,
Your feet falling open to the sides naturally,
Your glutes and your lower back relaxing into the support beneath,
Releasing into the support beneath.
Your arms lying straight a little away from your body,
Feel all the tension drain away from your arms,
Palms perhaps facing upwards,
And your head,
Allow your head to feel heavy and soft.
Let it be supported and held as you begin to let your whole body give way to rest.
This is all you need right now.
There is nothing else for you to do.
Nowhere else for you to be and no one else for you to look after.
Here and now is all you need.
Breathe into this present moment.
Here you can let go.
Allow yourself to drop into the quiet space within.
This is a return,
A coming home.
Begin to draw your awareness inward.
Let your eyes rest,
Gently closed.
Allow all the sounds around you to fade into the background.
Turn your attention to the silence within.
Feel your body let go further into stillness,
Softening,
Letting go of this sense of touch.
Let each and every external sense turn inward now,
Allowing the external world to dissolve away like mist in the morning sunlight.
Turn inward,
Deeper and deeper.
Watch your breath now,
Moving in and out of your body.
Watch and witness.
From this place,
Welcome your Sankalpa.
A simple statement that encompasses your deepest,
Most heartfelt desire.
Your deepest intention for your life.
A positive statement beginning with the words,
I am.
And if you're not working with a Sankalpa at the moment,
You may like to use the following.
I am rooted in myself.
I trust my inner voice.
All that I seek is within.
Whatever your Sankalpa,
Your truest desire,
Call it forth in your mind,
In your heart and repeat it silently and mindfully to yourself three times now.
Bring your awareness back to your body again,
Heavy and weighted on the support you're lying on.
Your body gently,
Softly releasing to the ground.
And you might like to invite the sensation of your body as the ground,
As the earth itself.
Moving your awareness now around your body,
Around your earth,
Seeding,
Nourishing,
Rooting.
Bring your full awareness to your right hand and your right hand thumb.
Your first finger.
Second finger.
Third finger.
And little finger.
Palm of hand.
Back of hand.
Wrist.
Forearm.
Elbow.
Upper arm.
Shoulder.
Right collarbone.
Chest.
Waist.
Hip.
Thigh.
Knee.
Shin.
Ankle.
Top of foot.
Sole of foot.
Big toe.
Second toe.
Third toe.
Fourth toe.
And little toe.
Moving your attention now to your left hand and to your left hand thumb.
First finger.
Second finger.
Third finger.
And little finger.
Palm of hand.
Back of hand.
Wrist.
Forearm.
Elbow.
Upper arm.
Shoulder.
Left collarbone.
Chest.
Waist.
Thigh.
Knee.
Shin.
Ankle.
Top of foot.
Sole of foot.
Your big toe.
Second toe.
Third toe.
Fourth toe.
And little toe.
Moving your attention to the back body.
Your heels.
Your calves.
The backs of your knees.
Backs of thighs.
Glutes.
Your back.
Your whole back.
Lower.
Middle.
Upper.
Your shoulder blades.
And your neck.
Your head.
Your whole head.
Your whole head.
Forehead softening.
Widening.
Eyebrows right and left.
Your eyes resting softly in their sockets.
All the tiny muscles around your eyes.
At the backs of your eyes.
Softening.
Releasing.
Your temples right and left.
Your ears right and left.
Your nose.
Your cheeks right and left.
And your mouth.
Your top lip and your bottom lip.
Your jaw releasing.
And your tongue resting in the base of your mouth.
Your throat and the pit of your throat.
Your chest.
The whole of your chest.
Your right arm and your left arm.
Both your arms together.
Your right leg and your left leg.
Both your legs together.
Your head and your chest.
Your arms and your legs.
Your whole body.
Your whole body.
Feel your whole body at once.
Aware.
Present.
Still.
Your earth.
Your land.
Your self.
Complete in your own field of sensation.
Seeding.
Nourishing.
Rooting.
Knowing your land is enough.
Your presence is enough.
You are enough.
Feel a heaviness of your body lying here.
Its weight pressing into the earth.
Heavy and weighted.
And then feel a lightness as though your body is weightless.
Floating in space.
Notice both.
Heavy and weighted.
Lightness and weightless.
And then notice the awareness that holds them both.
Remembering you are not the heaviness nor the lightness.
You are the one who is aware.
Coming back to your body once again,
Lying here on the earth.
Knowing your body,
Like the earth,
Holds a quiet power.
A fertile ground of becoming.
Where resilience grows in the dark.
And strength rises from rootedness.
These roots are your own.
They come from the earth.
But they also come from you.
Rooted in yourself.
You are steady.
Self-knowing.
And whole.
Notice your breath once again.
Moving in and out of your body.
Naturally.
Effortlessly.
Let the inhale be a receiving from the earth beneath.
And the exhale a release of all this goodness.
This goodness and nourishment to yourself.
To your world.
Now bring your attention to this space between your eyebrows.
And breathe here.
Call to mind the following images without analysis or critique.
Only witness and welcome what comes.
A locked door opening.
Roots pushing through the earth.
A quiet forest after rain.
A bird flying alone.
Sunrise on a spring morning.
A single flame held steady in the wind.
A mirror with no reflection.
A circle of salt.
An empty chair.
A compass in your hand.
A river flowing inside your heart.
Your voice echoing and returning only to you.
The deep roots of an ancient tree.
Rooted in self.
Rooted in self.
Rooted in self.
As Osho reminds us,
Be.
Don't try to become.
Within you,
You have everything.
Be silent and listen to yourself.
Rest.
Be silent.
And listen.
Returning to your sankalpa,
The seed you planted earlier.
Prepare to repeat it silently three times.
Feel its truth alive in your body.
Your body being nourished as not just words,
But knowing.
I am rooted in myself.
I trust my inner voice.
All that I seek is within.
Begin to feel the edges of your body.
Your breath deepening now.
Sounds coming back.
Feel the covers or your clothes on your skin.
All your senses returning now.
As you start to make your return.
Bring gentle movement into your fingers and toes.
Maybe gently rock your head from side to side.
Or softly stretch your body.
Whatever feels good for you today.
And remember to carry this quiet strength with you.
Your rooted self,
Which walks with you always.
No longer needing to go outward for what you know lies within.
And keep these words of Eckhart Tolle with you.
When you get the inside right,
The outside will fall into place.
All that you seek is within.
And when you're ready,
Slowly open your eyes.
And welcome back to your world.
May the peace which passes all understanding.
Keep your heart and mind in the knowledge and presence of love.
This practice of Yoga Nidra is now complete.
Thank you so much for taking the time to be with me today.
Hari Om Tat Sat.
Hari Om Tat Sat.
