Today's meditation is going to focus on allowing you to rediscover yourself.
Sometimes we can get really wrapped up into our lives and trying to live up to the expectations of what other people want us to be.
That sometimes it can be really easy to become detached from what we like,
What we want in life and really who we are deep down inside.
And one of the most profound things that anybody ever told me was when I was early on in recovery and I found myself going to these social events that I really didn't mesh well with,
But I had no idea what else to do with my time.
And a couple of friends eventually asked me,
Well,
What about your hobbies?
And that blew my mind because up until that point I hadn't realized that throughout this entire process I didn't have hobbies anymore because prior to recovery my only hobby was drinking.
And so it led me to a path of self discovery and I was able to find things that truly fuel and fire my soul.
And so this meditation will allow you to dive inward and find pieces of yourself and rediscover yourself on a really deep and profound level.
So before we begin,
Find a place where you can be quiet,
Free from distraction and comfortable for the duration of your meditation and get settled in.
Close your eyes and take a deep breath in through your nose,
Feeling as your diaphragm expands and your belly shifts and gently releasing the breath through your mouth.
Each breath setting the stage for relaxation,
Quieting the mind and relaxing the body.
As you exhale,
Let go of any thoughts,
Any worries,
Anything weighing on your mind.
Breathing in,
Allowing the breath to wash through your mind,
Clearing it and soothe your body.
Encouraging each breath to be drawn in a little bit deeper,
A little bit slower each time.
In your mind's eye,
Envision yourself standing in a place where you feel safe and secure.
It could be indoors at somebody you love's house or it could be outdoors in the middle of nature,
But in this place you are safe,
You are protected and you are comfortable,
Allowing yourself to become fully vulnerable and open.
As you dive a little bit deeper into yourself,
Breathing in and allowing your mind to still like a quiet lake with water that looks like glass.
As you stand in the safe,
In this happy,
Pleasant place,
You look down and you see a key and written upon the key is an activity that you enjoy or you'd like to try.
It could be a simple daily habit or it could be something a little bit grander like traveling.
And you look upon the key and choose whether or not to return it to where you found it or to tuck it away in your pocket to save it for a later time where you could try out the key.
And looking over to the other side,
You see on the ground another key and on this key you find engraved a different activity.
It might be an activity that you've already tried,
It might be an activity that it's been years since you've done.
But whatever the activity is,
You look at the key and you make the decision whether or not to return the key or tuck it away in your pocket to carry it with you.
And with each one you choose whether to return it to where you found it or to add it to your pocket saving it for later,
Saving it for a time where you can take the key out and utilize it.
And as any emotions start to come to the surface,
As you look at each key,
As you read the activity engraved upon it,
Acknowledge the emotion without attachment as you move on to the next key.
And you might find that you've collected quite a few keys within your pocket,
But you need not worry because no matter how many keys you collect,
Your pocket does not get full,
It does not get heavy.
It allows an endless supply of space as you explore each key as you find it,
Choosing to hang on to as many or as few as you'd like.
And if you find an internal resistance to an engraving that you see upon a key,
Perhaps a reason why that activity wouldn't be possible or why you couldn't do it,
Allow that objection to slip on by,
Letting it go,
Choosing solely based on your desire of whether or not you want to keep the key.
You continue to find new keys until you've reached the point to where you've found enough,
The point to where you feel confident that your collection of keys is complete.
And you reach within your pocket and plow each and every key that you've collected,
Putting it on the most beautiful key ring that you've ever seen,
Knowing that you can pull the set of keys out at any time,
That they are always with you,
That there will always be doors that you can unlock with them.
And each door that unlocks enriches and expands your life,
Leaving behind any fear or any doubt,
Leaving behind any limiting thoughts,
Knowing that you are deserving of each and every one of these keys and each and every experience that it leads to,
Knowing that you are welcome to return to this safe,
Protected place anytime that you wish,
That there are always more keys to find if you so desire.
Take a deep breath and gently wiggle your fingers and your toes,
Bringing your shoulders forwards and backwards,
Bringing awareness back into your body.
And when you're ready,
Open your eyes.
This is a great meditation to practice whenever you feel like you're stuck in a rut or like your routine needs to be spiced up a little bit.
And if there's anyone out there that you think could benefit from this meditation,
Please feel free to share it with them.
Thank you so much for joining me today.
Have a wonderful day.
Namaste.
