In the practice of meditation,
We learn to guide our consciousness to the different parts of the mind.
In doing so,
We become more aware of the mind-thinking,
More aware of the natural tendencies,
The strengths and the weaknesses of the mind.
According to yogic philosophy,
The mind has four different components.
1.
Manas,
The sensory mind.
This part of the mind interacts with our senses.
Sight,
Sound,
Touch,
Smells,
Taste.
2.
Booty,
The intellect,
Enables rational thinking.
This part of the mind analyzes,
Discriminates,
Makes decisions based on information and knowledge.
3.
Ahumkara,
The ego.
The sense of I am,
Which includes your self-worth,
Desires,
Personalities.
And when we meditate,
We can learn to access the higher level of the ego and the limited understanding of the self begins to expand.
4.
Chitta,
The memory.
This is the highest level of the mind associated with the collective consciousness,
Associated with our subconscious and unconscious minds.
So in this meditation,
We will be exploring the infinite power of the mind.
And with dedication and practice,
We can move the awareness towards the higher mind,
The source of intuition,
Bliss,
Inspiration,
Deeper understandings.
And now,
Preparing for the practice of meditation.
Take the next few moments to get comfortable wherever you are,
Perhaps in a comfortable cross-legged position.
And feel free to adjust everything you need.
And then invite the eyelids to close gently.
Seeing the upper eyelids lightly resting over the lower lids.
Let your seat sink into the surface that you're sitting on.
Feel your connection to the ground,
To the whole earth beneath.
And from this firm base,
Feel the spine elongating upward,
Growing taller,
Up through to the crown of the head.
Sitting up nice and tall,
But without forcing,
Without tensing.
Soften the space between the eyebrows and the back of the eyelids.
Let the jaw loosen,
Feel the tongue resting on the floor of the mouth.
Feel the shoulders drop away from the ears,
And let the hands rest easily on the lap.
Feel the muscles in the chest and in the abdomen softening.
And allow yourself to ease into that state of stillness.
Notice how everything is beginning to slow down.
Just creating space for the mind to rest in this moment.
Gently turn the attention to the sounds of life all around.
Notice the three dimensionality of sound.
Seeing the distant sounds,
The closer sounds,
How sounds are carried within space.
See the listener,
Move the awareness from sound to sound.
And continue to observe with a soft focus.
Listen to the sound of the breath.
And begin to watch the natural breath.
Focus the attention on the rims of the nostrils.
Gently notice the feeling of the breath flowing in and flowing out.
Keep the flow effortless,
Gliding.
Notice how the body moves with the breath.
Movement in the chest and in the abdomen.
So soft.
So quiet.
So subtle.
Observe the breather with a gentle awareness and an open state of mind.
Now draw the awareness from the breath to the flow of thoughts moving through the mind.
Observe the mind thinking.
Just like with the breath or the sounds,
Let each thought come and let it go.
So rather than resisting the thoughts or running away with them,
Simply observe as a neutral witness.
Watching each thought as it arises and unfolds in the awareness.
And you may begin to label each thought as pleasant,
Unpleasant,
Or neutral.
And let the thoughts continue to flow without any weight to them.
Pay detached attention to the thoughts.
Pleasant,
Unpleasant,
Or neutral.
Gently let go of what you were previously thinking of and draw the awareness up to the space in front of the closed eyes.
Chitakash,
The infinite space of the mind,
The source of intuition,
Bliss,
Inspiration,
Deeper understandings.
Take a moment to establish a connection to the space.
The gaze remains inward,
But as if looking outwards into the distance.
And simply be with whatever arises across this darkened screen of the mind.
And if thoughts continue to flow in the background,
Know that that is okay.
You may ask yourself,
Who is having these thoughts?
Who am I?
And the consciousness that is having this experience.
Take the next few moments to contemplate on the mystery of being.
And when you're just being,
You are a spacious field of presence that feels everywhere and nowhere specific.
Sense of time dissolves,
Becoming irrelevant,
And you exist beyond the forms of time.
Settle into a feeling of being connected.
Sensing deep contentment,
Oneness,
Wholeness.
Just resting in pure,
Limitless awareness.
Let any images slowly fade away.
And visualize the room,
The space around you.
And take the next few moments to ground yourself inside your body.
And within,
Feel your connection to the earth.
Sense the weight of your body.
Sense the depth of your body.
Sense the shape of your body,
Seated here in meditation.
And from within,
Feel your connection to life all around you.
Life as it is unfolding,
Right here,
Right now.
And feel free to remain here for as long as you need.
In your essence,
You are the light of awareness itself.
Namaste.
