Do you hear the word meditation and have an image of someone seated,
Legs are crossed and body is completely still?
Yes,
This can be a traditional meditation posture.
My meditation can look like that.
It also can be standing,
Walking,
Dancing,
Cooking or lying down falling asleep.
To me,
All of those are perfect and correct.
They allow me to support whatever my body and mind are needing at that time,
To allow my mind to unwind,
To drop beneath the thoughts,
To become absorbed in something.
So today,
For the next few minutes,
Take a moment to find a posture that works best for your body and know you can move at any time.
Perhaps it's not that habitual image of someone meditating.
Tune into what you may need,
Walking or moving if you have energy that wants or needs to move.
Perhaps standing if you feel restless,
Seated if that feels comfortable.
For me,
Right now my body and my emotional body are exhausted and they want and need to be held and nourished and I'm going to choose to lay down.
So while you're making yourself comfortable,
Without any judgment,
Perhaps notice a thought or a conversation that you may have and decide if those are serving you to take this few minutes of rest,
If they're supporting you to be here,
Or if you'd like just for now to put them aside.
Recognizing this moment of pause and you're choosing to take this on purpose.
And these moments can be very precious.
Support yourself in any way that you need to allow yourself to arrive.
Orient into the space that you're in with perhaps something that you smell or you see or you hear.
Sense the space that's around you,
Above you and below you,
To the right of you and the left of you.
If it's safe and you'd like to allow your eyes to soften,
Look at something that's not moving or perhaps allow the eyes to close and sense the top eyelid resting on the lower eyelid.
Top lip may be resting on the lower lip and feel the tongue gently resting in the mouth.
The skin of the face hanging on the cheekbones.
The brow softening.
The shoulders melting down the back body.
Hands are in a natural place of rest.
And gentle,
Lengthen the spine,
Whatever position you're in.
Bring a sense of lightness to the body,
A hollow,
Empty,
Floating kind of feeling to the body.
Nothing you need to do.
Mind and body emptying of stories,
Images,
Moving towards the space of the heart.
Allowing your heart to hold you,
Moving through the rest of your day in a space of loving awareness of the heart.
