You’re welcome to use this guided meditation when you have already taken insulin and are working on preventing rage bolusing - taking more insulin than is necessary because you think that will bring your glucose down faster. Doing so will probably drop the blood sugar faster if you have more insulin on board than is needed, but this also increases the risk of then dealing with a low blood sugar later, possibly over-correcting, and all of a sudden finding yourself on a blood sugar roller coaster. In this practice, you’re invited to notice your internal experiences as you pause before rage bolusing.

Transcript

Begin by bringing your attention to where you are physically located in space.

Maybe you look around your environment,

Noticing where you are.

Perhaps shifting to where your body is located in space.

Maybe you can feel the contact points between your body and the surfaces it is supported by.

Pausing here.

Acknowledging that you want to rage bull with.

Meeting this moment non-judgmentally.

Pausing here.

Realizing it's okay to want to rage bull with,

And you can let this urge pass on by.

Reminding yourself that urge is come and go.

Pausing here.

Noticing what thoughts are present for you in this moment.

Reminding yourself that thoughts come and go.

Pausing here.

Noticing what emotions are present for you in this moment.

Pausing here.

Noticing what body sensations are present for you in this moment.

Reminding yourself that body sensations come and go.

Pausing here.

Recognizing that you've already treated the high,

And insulin takes time to start working.

Reminding yourself that you can give the insulin time to work.

Pausing here.

Knowing that if after some time has passed,

And this insulin dose has been working in your body,

And your blood sugar is still high,

Then you can always give more insulin at that time.

Being prepared to handle whatever diabetes brings you in the moment,

By carefully responding instead of reacting.

Pausing here.

Noticing what thoughts are present for you in this moment.
