Hello,
And thank you for joining me for this Mind the Pain Mindfulness Meditation,
Aimed at reducing the stress,
Pain,
And anxiety caused by endometriosis.
Hopefully you're here today with no pain or fatigue in the body.
Either way,
You've come to the right place to start feeling even just a little bit better.
Let's begin by slowing the heart rate down,
And allowing calm and relaxation to wash over us.
We'll start by laying down,
Closing our eyes,
And taking two deep belly breaths in.
We're going to do the physiological sigh technique and add an extra inhale for each breath.
So just a deep belly breath in,
An extra quick inhale.
One more time,
Deep belly breath in,
An extra quick inhale,
And exhale.
Nicely done.
Continue to breathe deeply and slowly as we focus on the body and all it does for us.
When dealing with endometriosis,
It's really easy for us to feel like we're at war with our body,
Constantly fighting a never-ending battle with the pain,
Fatigue,
And the bloating.
This can rightly create an us-versus-them mentality with our body,
But it's not.
Even in this moment right now,
Your body is working so hard to protect you,
Keep you safe,
Even if it sucks at it sometimes.
Just take this moment to visualize all the little blood vessels,
Arteries,
Neurons,
Cells,
And the roughly 78 organs that are working around the clock without your conscious input,
Operating 24-7 in the body,
Plugging along nicely without much praise or attention from us.
This must not be in a workers' union or something.
If anything in society worked as effectively as our body does for us,
Let's just say the world would be a better place.
But what I'm trying to get at is that even when we're in pain,
Our body is still our friend,
Which I know sounds like some sort of Stockholm Syndrome approach,
Identifying with your captor.
But we need to learn to love our body,
And even our endo,
Since it's a part of us,
And our story.
Even if it's an insanely hard one at times,
It's still a beautiful and poetic journey you're on with your body.
The way you relate and connect to it is so special.
It should be celebrated,
Even if it's under these awful circumstances.
So still breathing deeply and slowly,
Just consider how many people walk this planet without connecting to their body and being present or listening to it,
Allowing the mind to control everything.
But you,
Dear warrior,
You've got your body on speed dial,
Always ready to connect.
I know it can be hard to love our bodies and feel happy with ourselves,
Especially when we're feeling bloated,
Fatigued,
Or even when looking at our surgery scars if you have them.
But as my favorite line from Fight Club says,
I don't want to die without any scars.
And more to that point,
Another favorite line of mine is from the movie Red Dragon,
Where Hannibal Lecter says,
Be grateful.
Scars have the strange power to remind us that our past was real.
Anyway,
Even if we don't have the physical scars from surgery,
We have the emotional and mental scars within us of everything Endo has forced us to bear.
These have the power to remind us of everything we've endured,
All that we're capable of enduring,
And what a truly powerful warrior you are.
Even on the days you don't feel you're strongest or most capable,
It's there.
Your body is just needing its rest.
That's why you being here and everything you're doing to take care of yourself is so amazing and you need to be so proud of yourself for looking after the most important person here.
You.
For all the things your body endures,
Remember to always pay it forward by taking care of it and giving it rest.
Just like the movie Pay It Forward,
Which you haven't seen.
It's where Hayley Joel Osmond can see dead people and Kevin Spacey turns out to be a ghost the whole time.
I'm quite certain that's the movie.
Yeah,
It definitely was because Kevin Spacey's face was burnt because he was in a fire,
So of course he was a ghost.
I don't know,
I didn't understand it.
Either way,
Whenever your Endo causes you to have moments where you're feeling less than confident about your body or who you are,
Just tune inward and remind yourself of everything your body has and continues to do for you and that you're truly remarkable inside and out,
Even more so because of your Endo.
Before we come out of this meditation,
We'll just take two deep breaths in,
Similar to before with the extra inhale.
So once again,
Deep inhale in,
An extra quick inhale,
And exhale.
And one more time,
Deep belly breath in,
An extra quick inhale,
And exhale.
And as usual,
We'll give ourselves a nice shoulder roll,
Wiggle the fingers,
Toes,
And gently open your eyes.
Remember,
The wound is the place where the light enters you.
Let your light shine bright,
Warrior.
You've got this.
