I'm good.
I don't need any help.
Hey,
It's Michael,
And welcome to a moment to pause,
Breathe,
Reflect,
And get comfortable asking for help.
Before my accident and recovery,
I did not ask for help.
I thought I had to do it on my own.
I thought asking for help was a sign of weakness,
So I would just grit it out.
And sometimes when it got really tough,
I quit.
That was better than asking for help.
But during my recovery,
I discovered that asking for help is a statement that says,
I'm not quitting.
I just need a little support.
Plus,
It was a way to connect with other people.
We all know the feeling we feel when we help someone else.
So when we ask for help,
Other people get to experience what we like to experience when they support us.
In this practice,
We'll get a little bit more comfortable asking for help,
Because we know it's a statement that says,
I'm not quitting,
And I would love to connect with you further,
To get a little closer.
So we can put a beautiful ripple out into the world.
When you're ready,
Find a comfortable position.
You may be seated or standing or even lying down.
And you can close your eyes or keep them open or even have a soft gaze if that makes you feel a little bit more comfortable as you settle into your posture.
And we'll drop in.
And we'll begin by taking a few healthy inhales and nice,
Slow,
Releasing exhales.
Breathing up fully through your nose and out slowly through the mouth.
Allowing yourself to slow down and relax the body and let go of any beliefs that prevent you from asking for help.
Let those stories go.
And as you come into the natural rhythm of the breath,
I invite you to bring to mind an area in your life where you could use a little support,
Where you could use some help.
Bring that to mind.
It might be something personal.
It could be something professional.
It could be small or large in scale.
Very specifically,
As you bring this to mind,
Where could you use support?
In what ways could you use some help?
And as that becomes clearer,
Bring to mind someone you know or perhaps someone who might know someone who could offer you help and support.
Who would that be?
And now with this person in mind,
And with a very specific ask for help,
I invite you to drop into your heart and visualize that you're breathing in and out through your heart.
And as you do,
Feel the courage that's within your heart,
Acknowledging that asking for help isn't easy.
And with this courage,
Visualize yourself asking this person for their support,
For their help in the way that you need it.
Visualize how that conversation will flow and the statement you're making that you're not quitting,
That you want to build connection with someone else so you can put a beautiful ripple into the world.
You got this.
And they've got you.
Together,
You go far.
And now you can relax your attention.
And as we begin to round out this pause,
Breathe,
Reflect moment,
I invite you to reflect on how you can get more comfortable asking for help.
And when you're ready,
You can open the eyes and wiggle those beautiful fingers and toes and give your body a little hug.
I hope you enjoyed this moment to pause,
Breathe,
Reflect,
To get comfortable asking for help.
And I hope you'll share it with someone that you know who might also need to ask for help because we all need help from time to time.
And between now and the next time we practice together,
When you have a challenging moment,
When you need a little help,
Slow down,
Come back to your breath,
And know that you've got this and we've got you.
And don't forget to ripple something worth rippling.
