Today's practice will be a two-part inhale and one-part exhale all through the mouth.
You're going to breathe into the belly,
Into the chest,
And out all through the mouth,
Maximizing oxygen and bringing the energy up through the heart.
The speed and depth don't matter as much,
As long as you keep this active breathing pattern going throughout the full practice until the meditation.
Before we get into the active breath,
I want you to find a comfortable surface to lay down on.
You're going to want to get super comfy,
And if possible,
Cover the eyes with an eye mask or anything that keeps you in your own experience.
If you're in the comfort of your own home,
Grab a blanket and get super cozy for today's session.
If you need to pause this practice to gather these things,
Pause it now and resume when you're set up nicely.
Now,
Once your space is set up and you're in maximum comfort,
Close your eyes and settle in.
We are going to focus on taking four haa breaths,
Breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth with a haa sound.
Are you ready?
Breathing in,
And out.
That's right,
Just like that.
Breathe in,
And out.
Two more.
In,
And out.
Breathe in,
And out.
Now,
Breathe naturally and begin to notice the sensations you feel.
Can you feel the gentle weight of gravity?
The touch of the blanket or the clothes you are wearing?
Focus your attention on deeper and deeper relaxation.
As you breathe,
You may begin to notice a familiar feeling.
The relaxation washing over your body.
Each inhale,
Deeper relaxation.
Each exhale,
Releasing tension.
That's right,
That's right.
Inhaling relaxation and exhaling all the tension.
You may begin the active breathing pattern now.
Breathing into the belly,
Into the chest,
And out.
Breathing into the belly,
Breathing into the chest,
And out.
One more at this speed.
Breathing into the belly,
Into the chest,
And out.
Now increasing the rapidity.
Breathing in,
In,
And out.
Into the belly,
Chest,
And out.
Really focusing,
Continuing the pattern at your own rhythm.
If you want to continue at the rhythm of the music,
You can continue to do so.
But these next few minutes are all about activation.
So we're going to want to really get into the breath in these moments.
Energizing the cells,
Energizing the body.
Breathe fully into the belly,
Fully into the chest,
And breathing out.
Following the beat as best you can.
Breathing in,
Out.
Breathing in that pattern,
Continuing to move with the music,
Taking up the space that you need to today.
And just know,
First three to five minutes of the breathing practice can feel kind of like a workout.
But keep pulling through.
Keep maximizing and taking advantage of the breath in these first few minutes.
You really want to breathe deep into the belly,
Into the chest,
And out.
I'm going to give you some space to get into your rhythm now.
That's right.
And start to notice any sensations that are starting to activate in the body.
Bringing your awareness as best you can to those sensations.
And in this pause right here,
Focus on the heart.
The intention for today,
Maximizing compassion.
Where can you find compassion now?
Compassion for you?
Compassion for your loved ones?
Compassion for strangers?
This moment.
Activate.
And ask yourself in this moment,
Who are you without the pain?
Without that which holds heavy on your heart,
Holds heavy on your shoulders.
What can you let go of in today's practice?
I challenge you to dig in.
To be open and curious to that which comes up in this moment.
And in the next section,
Find your own rhythm and focus again on the heart.
So often,
We find ourselves holding on.
Holding on to the past.
Worried for the future.
Focus on right now.
Focus on this moment.
What emotions are present right now?
And what can you process right now?
Allowing yourself to be fully immersed in this moment.
Calling in the compassion.
Calling in the forgiveness.
Calling in the love that perhaps you weren't given growing up.
So in these next few moments,
Feel into these spaces.
Continue breathing.
Start to build the energy right now for the last bit of this breathing practice.
Can you go 110%?
Can you surrender to whatever emotions are present and go all the way right now?
Allowing yourself to breathe in,
In,
Out.
In,
Out.
In,
In,
Out.
Maximize the time right now.
The last few moments of this active breath.
Keep breathing.
You're doing great.
Just keep breathing for these last few seconds.
Maximizing your space.
Maximizing this time for you.
Breathing all the way in.
And hold.
Keep holding.
Keep on holding.
Just a few more seconds.
Three,
Two,
One.
Release.
You can now drop the active breath completely and just take a deep,
Relaxing breath right now.
As you exhale,
Release any tension you may be holding in your body.
And allow yourself to fully settle into a comfortable position,
Feeling the support beneath you.
You are safe and you are here to explore the depths of compassion within yourself.
Imagine,
If you will,
A serene and peaceful place.
It could be a lush,
Green forest or a tranquil beach or any other location that resonates with you.
As you visualize this place,
Notice the gentle breeze caressing your skin.
The soothing sounds of nature and the warmth of the sun embracing you.
In this tranquil setting,
Picture a radiant light glowing at the center of your chest.
This light represents your heart,
The source of your compassion.
Feel it expanding with each breath you take,
Filling your entire chest cavity with its warm and loving energy.
As this light expands,
Imagine it reaching out to touch the heart of others.
See it reaching beyond the boundaries of your body,
Connecting with the hearts of people near and far.
Visualize these connections as threads of light weaving a web of compassion that circles the globe.
Now,
I'd like you to think of someone in your life who could benefit from your compassion.
It could be a friend,
A family member,
Or even yourself.
Visualize them standing before you in this serene place,
Bathed in the gentle light of your compassion.
With each breath,
Send waves of love and understanding towards them.
Feel your compassion enveloping them,
Offering them comfort and solace.
Imagine their burdens and worries melting away as they are embraced by your warm,
Caring energy.
And as you continue to send this compassionate energy to them,
Notice any subtle shifts in your own feelings.
Perhaps you feel a sense of empathy or a desire to help.
Allow these feelings to grow,
Knowing that your compassion has the power to create positive change.
Now,
Take a moment to turn this compassionate gaze inward toward yourself.
You deserve the same love and understanding that you offer to others.
Allow the light of your heart to shine upon your own being,
Healing any wounds or self-criticism that may be present.
Feel the soothing balm of self-compassion wash over you,
Embracing every part of who you are.
Know that you are worthy of love and acceptance,
Just as you are.
Now,
Repeat these affirmations out loud or silently to yourself.
I am a source of boundless compassion,
And I share it with the world around me.
I am compassionate to myself,
Knowing that I am deserving of love and kindness.
I am a beacon of light,
Radiating love and understanding to those around me.
I release judgment and criticism,
Embracing compassion as my guiding principle.
My compassionate energy has the power to heal and transform.
Take in every sensation that arises as you embody these affirmations in every cell.
Know that you are already shifting in this very moment,
And compassion will follow you throughout your day.
Continuing to sit in this space,
In this compassionate awareness,
For a few moments of unguided meditation.
As you gently return your awareness to the present moment,
Carry this newfound sense of compassion with you.
Know that you can tap into this wellspring of love and empathy whenever you choose,
Both for yourself and for others.
When you are ready,
Slowly start to open your eyes,
Bringing this feeling of compassion and connection with you into your day.
Remember,
Compassion is a gift that you can give freely,
And in doing so,
You create a more compassionate world for yourself and those around you.
May you live a happy and harmonious life.
