Meditation On Receiving Support & Nurturing
by Mia Logie
We will sit with and accept four different types of support that are directly available to us. First, the support from the material/object we are resting on. Second, the support we can find in nature and re-experience in visual meditation. Third, support from people in our lives, where we feel unconditionally loved. If we do not have an experience of that, then allowing ourselves to show what that can be like. And lastly, from the divine. We end with a prayer of sorts with self-loving messages.

Hi,
Welcome.
Today let's do a meditation on being nurtured and accepting,
Nurturing.
Find yourself in a comfortable position.
If you're sitting with your back straight,
Your arms and your laps are by your side.
Let's take a couple of deep breaths together and let's hold our breath and feel it expand into the sides of our ribs.
Let's notice what's happening in our bodies.
Notice if there's any place where you're holding tension.
Notice in your face,
Your eyes,
Your forehead,
Your jaw.
Allow your eyes to kind of turn inward or relax on the tissue bed where they are.
Notice if you're holding tension in your cheekbones.
See if you can just relax all of those facial muscles.
Let's go to your neck and your shoulders.
Just breathe to any tension there.
Notice if you're judging yourself.
If you're judging yourself for tension,
Just allow yourself to accept that it's there.
Invite it to disappear,
To melt.
Get onto your chest,
Your arms,
Your hip bone.
Hip is a common place where we often hold tension.
See if you can support your spine with your core muscles instead of using hips and chest,
Shoulders too.
Keep yourself together.
Relax your thighs,
Your hamstrings,
Your knees.
Release all your joints,
Your calves,
The inner arch of your foot.
It may be surprising to notice the tension that's held in places that we don't always notice that we're holding it.
Just allow yourself to notice what it feels like to let it go.
And now notice the support that your body is naturally receiving,
However you're sitting,
Relying,
Or being.
Notice the surfaces that your body is receiving support from.
If you're sitting,
It could be a chair.
If you're lying down,
It could be a bed or the floor.
Notice the exchange of energy between your body and this material.
How this object is offering you the support willingly.
It's not asking for anything in return.
Allow yourself to feel what it feels like in your heart to be receiving this support.
It may be moving to realize that you are allowed to receive this support without offering anything in return.
Now think about it.
Being out on a walk in nature,
A place that you love.
You may be sitting by a stream.
Just notice some of the things that brings you pleasure or a sense of calmness in that experience.
There may be sounds of birds.
Maybe moving water.
The sounds of the moving water.
Maybe beautiful green leaves.
The smell of the air that you're breathing.
Just notice what it feels like to receive.
If your body feels refreshed,
Supported,
Nurtured,
Know what is available to it in this experience.
Notice again how all these things are available to you without having to offer anything in return.
And receiving this beauty,
This calmness,
The fresh air.
It doesn't cost nature anything for you to be part of it.
As long as you're showing respect for Mother Nature,
You are actually offering something in return.
The air that you breathe out nurtures the plants.
And as you walk,
You may actually be helping spreading some seeds from one place to another.
Just notice what it feels like to know that you're welcome to belong here.
That you are a natural part of this.
Does your heart feel lighter?
Does it bring a sense of freedom?
Does it bring a sense of wanting to be good?
Does it bring a sense of gratitude?
Now let's look good.
A person that makes you feel supported.
A person where you feel that none of your burdens can be too heavy.
None of your worries can be too much.
None of your excitement or celebration isn't worthy of paying attention to.
If you've ever had an experience of that kind of a relationship,
Of that kind of a person in your life,
Just notice what that is.
What's it like to be in the presence of that person?
And if you're like me and you may not have grown up with an experience of parents or grown ups that were like that,
Then know that this is available for you.
If you've never had an experience of that.
That this could be what one relationship in your life could be like.
We don't need all our relationships to be like that.
But if we can have one experience like that,
That can nurture us and attune us to that.
This is normal.
This is natural.
This is possible.
If you haven't had one of those experiences yet,
Then imagine that that would be like,
Imagine you coming home,
Sharing about your day.
Maybe some tears,
Maybe frustration.
Maybe joy,
Exuberance.
There's a place for all of it.
Just notice how it feels to be in the presence of that.
Does that nurture you?
Does that bring you a sense of joy and gratitude?
That you could be allowed to be all of you,
To be all of that,
No matter what it is.
And how does it make you feel about that person?
Does it make you want to bring everything you can to that person?
Does it make you want to do the same for them?
Does it invest you in the relationship?
Notice again what's happening with your body here.
Notice if you started holding tension in any place.
What if there was any anxiety that showed up around?
Any of these options?
What if that anxiety showed itself in any particular part of your body?
If you felt the need to be.
To brace yourself against something,
Defend yourself against something.
By holding your shoulders tighter,
Your neck,
Your eyes,
Your jaw.
Let it all relax again.
You're safe here.
You're safe in this moment.
The material that you're resting on,
Still supporting you.
Nature is still out there,
Wanting to support you,
Welcoming you to be supported.
And whether you have a person in your life that is available to you for that kind of unconditional support,
You can be that person.
You can be always open for yourself exactly the way you are.
It's not always easy in the moment.
And the closer you can bridge the moment with a reflection,
The place where you can accept yourself,
The closer you get to being able to do it in the moment.
So notice here if there's any particular part of you that needs acceptance from yourself.
That acceptance is nurturing.
And notice what that part of you wants to hear.
Does it want to hear that you are enough?
Because you are enough.
Right here,
Right now,
You are enough.
Does it want to know that you are loved?
Because right here,
Right now,
You are loved.
Does it want to know that you matter?
Because right here,
Right now,
Who you are,
What you feel,
What you want,
It matters.
It matters to you.
And it matters if it matters to you.
This place of you accepting offers so much healing.
As we heal that,
We come to be more whole.
There's no part of you that cannot be accepted.
We can understand what it was that led us to feel or act or respond in a certain way.
We can have humanity for our mistakes.
For shame.
And now let's invite a divine being,
Divine healing,
To support you in any way that you feel you need it.
Notice how this divine presence is like a glowing,
Warm energy that fills you,
Especially the parts of you that may still hold any kind of tension or any difficulty to accept yourself or anything.
Just notice how it's just there.
Notice what it says to you,
What is the message for you.
I love you.
You are my child.
You're my daughter.
You're my son.
You belong with me.
I'm proud of you.
Thank you for accepting my love.
Thank you for allowing me to fill you.
Thank you for feeling my warmth.
Thank you for allowing me to fill those places of you that are wounded and hurting.
I want you to feel whole.
I want you to feel free,
Loved.
And I want you to have all the room to express yourself,
To feel safe.
I trust you.
I trust you to do what you want to do with this life.
I trust you to make everything you want out of it.
And I'm grateful for every time that you allow my presence to shine through you.
It makes me so proud.
I see you shine.
You are a shining light and I always accept you exactly as you are.
There's no part of you that you need to keep hidden from yourself.
All of it is acceptable.
All of it is human.
And that is exactly what I want for you.
When you accept me as a part of you,
It makes me whole.
Thank you.
And as we conclude this meditation,
Just notice how your body feels now.
If there's any place where you're still holding tension,
Just bow to it and accept it.
And allow it to melt if there's any part of it that is open to that.
I bow to the divine in you.
Namaste.
