So an introduction to mindful movement.
Why are we interested in mindful movement?
It's not exercise,
It's not physical activity that we're interested in.
It's another doorway into mindfulness.
So we move a lot and our bodies are designed to move.
So mindful movements allow us an opportunity to come into the body.
And sometimes this can be an easier way of connecting with the body.
So mindful movements are really about fostering that attention,
That present moment attention in the body as it's moving.
And we need to do this with care because when our bodies are maybe painful or we may feel they've let us down in some way,
Then we can sometimes be quite harsh with our bodies and what they're able to do and not do.
So this practice is designed to really come into the body kindly and develop ways of noticing whether we're pushing to what we call a hard edge,
Trying to make the body do something that it doesn't want to do.
Or even perhaps pulling away and not moving our body for fear of what might happen.
So with these very gentle stretches we'll be looking at how we respond to our bodies.
So it's often helpful to check in maybe with GP or physio about any of these movements that you feel maybe you need to check in about.
And don't do any movement if it doesn't feel right.
You know,
Listen to your body and take care with it.
You know your body.
We all are different and we'll all be able to do things at different levels.
So the most important thing I think is to have a sense of not pushing yourself too far but really being with a movement,
However small it is.
It can tell us an awful lot about actually how we treat our bodies.
