Hello,

Welcome,

Opulent mindfulness.

Today's meditation is entitled,

What Should My Goals Be?

What Should My Goals Be?

As we approach the new year,

There's all kinds of chatter about resolutions and goals and setting my targets and reaching my dreams.

The new you,

New year,

New times and opportunities to fulfill our wishes.

Fresh start.

But what if we don't even know where to start?

Come to the cushion.

Get right with your brilliance and your light and the joy making activities in your life and then let that be your guide.

These are my goals.

How can I maintain and elevate?

And now we know what our goals should be.

Now we're each unique and different in our desires and what lights us up within.

So become very familiar with what makes you expand and what makes you contract.

And the only way we know is when we sit in quietude and listen and feel.

Just noticing,

Trying our best not to control any emotions and feelings.

Simply notice when they arise and your bodily response to them.

The body doesn't lie.

Come to your comfortable seat.

Drop into your bones and lift your heart high.

Take a big belly breath in and a long and soothing breath out.

And if you feel safe,

You're welcome to close your eyes.

What should my goals be?

Not a big fan of the word should,

But the whole notion of even setting goals is very task oriented.

So there's a lot of should involved.

But this does allow space for dreaming,

Architecting,

Feeling and stepping right into actualizing your perceived reality.

And we should all do that.

All right,

So as you sit call to mind a recent experience that left you feeling yuck,

Depleted,

Icky,

Terrible about yourself,

Ugly,

Stupid,

Incapable,

Lazy,

Right?

These are all negative,

Contractive,

Depleting emotions.

So dare to get very familiar with those negative emotions and the source of them and how your body is experiencing that negative event.

Heightening your awareness around the relationship between an event,

A situation,

People and your bodily response.

We don't like it.

But how can we know to avoid it in the future if we don't know it well when it happens?

All right,

So now the opposite.

Call to mind a recent experience where you felt light,

Accepted,

Loved,

Expansive,

Energized,

Fluid at ease and natural within yourself.

Get very familiar with that so that you know when it's happening.

So drop into your body and let your muscle memory dwell on this for a few seconds here.

Begin to notice with greater detail what made that experience so special and illuminating for you.

Stay there in the moment.

Keep noticing.

More details about that.

Get familiar.

Plug it.

Notice the body.

Notice if your face is expanding or contracting.

If you feel heavy or ebullient.

Just notice.

Now,

If you're judging the noticing,

That's also a negative emotion which will drain you.

So try to remain as neutral as possible.

Really noticing.

Permission to see the ugly.

Permission to be in your safe space now as you witness separate from you.

It's possible to see discord at the same time,

Be in a safe,

Secure place in your body.

Detaching.

What are my goals?

What should they be?

Now we dwell in the space that brings us joy.

Dwell in the space that is tuned into our nature.

Aligned and lighting us up.

Maybe it's very clear for you.

Maybe it's fuzzy.

Start small.

I get great joy when I look at my dog in the eyes.

Start there.

How can we spend more time together?

How can we explore nature together?

How can I carve out that time in my day to make sure that happens?

How can I integrate a walking meeting so that I can be with my dog,

Look in his eyes,

Explore nature and be together?

So just expounding on the tiny little kernel that brought us joy.

And this is how we set our goals.

The goals that should be for you.

You alone,

Leaving ego aside.

Compare us in kills.

Tuning in and aligning to your inner calling and structuring the support to fulfill that each and every day.

Namaste.
