Welcome,
Om Bytes.
This 10-minute meditation is entitled,
Life is Like a River.
So imagine the river to be life.
Life is running,
Running,
Running,
Non-stopping,
Carrying debris,
Gurgling,
Babbling,
Continuous but imperfect,
And never the same.
Now imagine you,
Your mind,
Your body,
Your heart,
Are a screen,
A screen cutting right across that river.
And this screen collects the debris.
Life keeps pushing.
The debris gets stuck.
And meditation is cleaning of the screen,
Cleansing,
Scrubbing,
Rinsing out the collected debris deposited by life,
The flowing river.
Now when the screen gets too clogged,
It causes resistance.
And life may no longer flow with ease through you.
So we practice meditation every day,
Scrubbing the screen,
So we may better receive,
Navigate,
And on the other side of the screen,
Witness a cleaner,
Shinier life.
It's true,
It works.
So come to your comfortable seat.
Press down,
Lift your heart,
And get comfortable,
Get lazy,
All but for your head.
The body is resting,
And the mind is probably gurgling like a babbling brook.
It's okay.
This is the process of scrubbing the screen clean.
It's not comfortable.
It's not glossy.
It's not a spa treatment.
But it is powerful and effective and simple and accessible to you any time.
I'll sound the cymbal to begin and to conclude.
So much like the river,
Life is nonstop.
Sometimes it's springtime and the river is full and flush.
Sometimes it's wintertime and the river gets frozen over and shrinks.
Nevertheless it keeps moving.
Our screen is there collecting debris,
Adjusting to temperature changes,
Receiving the weather patterns as they come.
It's the screen's job to maintain itself healthy,
Viable,
Clean,
Receptive.
And if the screen gets so clogged,
The river will start flowing up and over the screen,
Bombarding the other side before you know it,
We're out of control.
Spiraling,
Heavy,
Flooded over.
So clean your screen every day.
Every day.
And the cleaner the screen,
The more articulate our world.
We can see the fine details of what's coming downstream.
We can recognize and acknowledge the fine granularity of the particulates,
Serving,
Sharpening our awareness,
Giving greater range in the screen to receive life.
It's a beautiful magical process.
So as you sit in meditation here and now doing nothing,
You're still receiving life,
Thoughts,
Memories,
Worries,
Emotions come right on through the screen.
Let them go.
This is all part of the release,
The scrubbing of your heart,
Mind and body.
And the way that you receive life,
This flowing river will impact the outflow and what you put into the world on the other side.
You alone are important,
Valuable,
Necessary.
Shining and polishing life,
Your life that touches all lives around you.
Let your eyes fall heavily to their sides.
The heart space is receiving life,
Carrying with it lots of energy,
Force,
Push.
The more we open the heart space,
Keeping the screen clean,
We can be moved by life instead of trying to resist life.
What do we do with this debris?
Let it go.
Fall away to the side,
Scatter like dust in the wind until it finds its own right place,
Useful somewhere else.
Lighten your load.
And when there's less debris,
More light may shine through,
Illuminating what lies within,
Forward and back.
Coming from a place of ease.
When our screen is clean,
We can see the past,
See the future with great clarity,
Not occluded by the weight of our story.
Take a big breath in and a giant releasing breath out.
Namaste.
Namaste.
