Chakra Meditation
by Meredith Rom
Learn about the colors, sounds and emotional and energetic qualities of the seven chakras in this guided meditation. Chakras are the energy centers that can be found along our central channel, each one of them holding unique wisdom.
Transcript
The chakras are different energy centers in our body that move down the central channel of our spine and all the way up to the third eye and the crown of the head.
I'm going to lead you through a meditation around the chakras that incorporates each emotion or part of our life that each chakra is related to as well as the sound and the color.
So we're going to start here.
Close your eyes.
Center into the breath.
Lengthen through the spine.
Draw the shoulder blades on the back.
Soften the jaw.
Soften the eyes.
Now imagine a red glowing orb at your root chakra,
The base of the pelvis in the center of your body.
This is the muladhara chakra.
The sound here is LAM.
You can repeat it.
LAM.
Imagine this swirling orb at the root of the pelvis.
This chakra is related to a sense of belonging,
A sense of security,
Of being at home,
Having a foundation.
Also displaying courage.
Our root chakra can become out of balance when we don't have a sense of security and foundation in our lives,
A sense of survival when we don't have a home.
I remember a time in my life when I was looking for a new place to live.
My menstrual cycle got really out of balance and was coming at very odd times and it was this root chakra base.
The kind of emotions and everything that was held up in the root chakra was up in the air and so there were some difficulties there.
You might also find when you're traveling in your life,
Constipation comes up.
It's another root chakra element that is everything that is held here in the base of our pelvis,
All the organs that are related to it.
I want you to just imagine this root chakra,
The red color,
Spinning,
Finding balance,
Welcoming a sense of belonging,
A stable home,
Grounding foundation.
If you work with essential oils,
Frankincense is an oil that can be very helpful for the root chakra.
Moving up to the second chakra,
The sacral,
Swadhisthana.
The sound is vamm,
Vamm.
The color is orange.
It is related to relationships,
Creativity,
Sensuality,
Sexuality,
The root of our creativity.
Imagine a spinning orange orb here.
When we are out of touch with our sacral chakra,
Dance is something that can be so helpful.
Also hip openers,
Poses that in yoga that help us get into our hips can help us to tap back into our sensuality,
Our creativity.
Breathe all the way down into your sacral chakra.
An essential oil that is helpful for working with the sacral chakra is wild orange.
Moving up to the third chakra,
Solar plexus,
Mani pura.
The second chakra,
The sound of this chakra is ram.
Ram.
The color is yellow.
This chakra is where the seed of taking action,
The seed of our confidence,
Also the seed of our intuition,
And can be a place where we hold fear or shame.
Imagine this yellow spinning orb here in the center of your body located at the solar plexus,
Just below the ribcage.
Imagine this chakra balancing your ability to take action when you need to,
To release fear,
To release shame or guilt,
To stand in who you are with confidence.
Moving up to the fourth chakra,
The heart center,
The center of the heart,
Anahata.
This spinning orb here is green.
The sound for this chakra is yam.
Yam.
This chakra is based around love,
Self-love,
Inner peace,
Wholeness,
Joy.
But it can also be a place where we feel heaviness or grief.
You know,
When you go through something sad or difficult or a heartbreak,
You really feel that heaviness in your heart,
That achiness in your heart.
It's in the anahata chakra.
So if you're experiencing any of that heaviness in your life now,
Just imagine this green orb spinning,
Healing,
Balancing,
And repeat the sound.
Yam.
Yam.
An essential oil that's useful for the heart is geranium,
Heart opening oil.
Moving up to the fifth chakra,
The throat,
Vishuddha.
This is a bright indigo color and the sound here is ham.
H-A-M.
Ham.
This is the seat of our self-expression,
Communication,
The place where we learn to speak our truth.
If we're experiencing blocks in this chakra,
We might feel inhibited,
Unable to speak clearly or effectively.
We may feel that we're unable to speak loud.
These are all things that I've worked on a lot in the last few years.
And I want you to imagine just this indigo orb spinning here,
Opening.
Singing is so useful in balancing the throat chakra.
An essential oil that also helps is lavender.
Lavender essential oil really helps with our communication.
So again,
You can repeat the sound with me.
Ham.
Moving up to the sixth chakra,
The brow,
The third eye.
Anya.
Ajna.
The color is violet.
This is the chakra of vision,
Perception,
Imagination,
And wisdom.
This is our ability to see into the future.
If you're feeling blocked in this chakra,
It may be difficult for you to imagine yourself 10 years in the future.
And maybe even tomorrow,
It's hard to imagine looking into the future.
And if you're having that difficulty,
Imagine that violet orb spinning here,
Focusing on the third eye.
An essential oil that's useful for balancing the third eye or opening the third eye is clary sage.
And the sound here is om.
So you can repeat with me.
Moving to the seventh chakra,
Crown of the head.
Sahasrara.
Color is a white or sometimes a violet.
This chakra is about inner beauty,
Connection to the divine and grace.
Imagine a lotus flower sitting upon the crown of your head.
And imagine that lotus flower opening,
Blossoming,
Opening to receive guidance,
Connection to the divine,
Something higher than yourself.
The sound here is a silent om.
So you can imagine just saying om inside your own mind.
An essential oil that is useful for this chakra is also frankincense.
It is both grounding to the earth and opens us up to a connection with the divine.
Breathe into the space around the crown of the head.
Beautiful opening,
Opening up your center to receive and to form a connection of guidance with the divine.
I'm going to move now through each of the chakras with the sounds and you can repeat with me.
They go lam,
Vam,
Ram,
Yam,
Ham,
Om,
Silent om.
And with each of these,
Imagine the chakra starting at the root.
Now continue with your meditation.
From my heart to yours,
Namaste.
