Hello my friend.

Thank you so much for joining me today for this guided pranayama exercise Today we will be learning the technique of the ujjayi breathing.

This is also known as an oceanic breath as the sound is going to be similar to the sound of ocean waves.

This breathing style can promote relaxation.

It can also fill you with an energized feeling.

Another name for the ujjayi breath is a victorious breath,

Filling you with strength,

Confidence,

And warmth.

To begin,

Find yourself a comfortable seated position,

Noticing the ground beneath you,

Supporting you,

Noticing the temperature of the air around you,

Noticing any sounds of the world outside.

Just noticing these things as you bring your awareness now to your breath.

Beginning to deepen your inhales and your exhales,

Slowing down each breath in and each breath out.

Now sealing your lips as you breathe in,

Finding constriction in your throat as if you're about to yawn.

Keeping your lips sealed on the exhale,

Keeping that constriction in your throat.

It's almost like you're fogging up a mirror in front of you.

The breath is warm but your lips are sealed.

Taking another breath in,

Finding that constriction in your throat,

Keeping that constriction as you exhale through the nose.

Continuing in this way on the inhales and the exhales.

The sound you hear may remind you of the ocean.

The inhales,

Similar to the sound of the waves building and gaining strength.

The exhales like the curling wave breaking on the shore.

Noticing the sound of your waves,

Keeping your breath slow and steady,

Letting go of any thoughts that may try to attach to your mind and letting them go with each wave that crashes.

Once you've found this steady rhythm,

This foundation that you have built,

Feel free to stay here as long as you like.

Or perhaps you would like to move into a yoga practice,

Some gentle stretching or find some movement.

The choice is yours.

I will be here to guide you in your breathing.

You may continue to stay in this space as long as you like,

Practicing your ujjayi breathing technique.

If you feel you are ready to come back into your present space,

Into your awareness in your body,

Your physical surroundings,

Go ahead and start to wiggle your fingers,

Your toes,

Bringing some life back into your limbs.

Maybe bringing your hands together,

Rubbing them together,

Palms facing each other to generate some warmth,

Some heat.

Personally,

I like to rub the palms together and then gently rest on my eyes,

Feeling that warmth from the palms transferring into the eyes,

Waking up the senses.

As you're ready,

As you're ready,

Fluttering the eyes open,

Maybe the hands come to heart center,

Taking one more breath in together and then exhale.

Thank you so much for joining me today for this pranayama practice.

It has been my honor to guide you today.

Namaste.

Welcome back! This was a really informative practice. I have never been able to master this breathing technique but your imagery of fogging up a mirror with lips closed was just what I needed to hear! I am bookmarking this one for my daily practice. Your voice fills me with so much zen. I have missed seeing new tracks from you and am glad you shared this powerful practice. Namaste 🙏
