Let's embrace the present moment together for the next few minutes.
No matter how you're seated,
Whether you're sitting on the floor and your legs are crossed,
Or you're seated on a chair and your feet are firmly planted,
Just begin to notice the space around you.
You may notice different thoughts or distractions coming in when you notice a certain object or a light or a book or anything in your space that makes your mind wander,
Or think about a story from the past or the future without getting overwhelmed by the thoughts and the distractions,
Just allowing them to flood into your presence.
Keeping our eyes open here,
Still looking around us and beginning to take a deep inhale through your nose,
Filling up your lungs,
And a deep exhale,
Releasing,
Feeling your shoulders soften and your body pressed down.
One more time,
Breathing in and exhaling.
While I invite you always to close your eyes,
Maybe this time we just soften our gaze,
Still noticing and seeing the space around us,
The environment that we're sitting in,
Starting to notice the air around us,
Maybe any certain smells coming in,
Noticing sounds maybe from outside of the room,
The house,
Maybe we're outside hearing the trees,
The wind,
Maybe distant voices,
Just noticing everything that's coming into all of your senses in this moment right here,
Right now.
And again,
You might notice a thought,
A feeling,
A sensation coming in trying to distract you from this feeling of just being grounded,
Mindful,
And aware of this present moment.
And just coming into the awareness that the present moment is such a simple idea,
But it can be very challenging when put into practice.
Just thinking about that for one moment,
Being present,
Being rooted in the present moment and embracing what comes up,
And allowing a sensation of grace to come in as it's so easy to think about the past,
To worry,
To plan for the future,
And beginning to notice how often this happens to you,
What your relationship is with the present moment,
And how easy it is to not be rooted in it.
Taking another deep inhale here,
Filling up your lungs,
Feeling the cool air as it enters through your nostrils,
And then releasing.
And as you release,
How does the floor feel beneath you?
How does it feel to have your hands resting on your legs?
How does it feel to allow sounds,
Smells,
Noises,
Any sensations that are happening in this present moment in your environment to just be?
To not change anything,
To not make anything happen?
The more we rest in this present moment,
The more that happens internally within us that we can't control.
We learn to observe and rest in this present moment a lot easier.
We notice when our mind is wandering a lot more often.
We learn how to respond instead of react when tough situations come into our experience.
So while our mind can play tricks on us,
Making us think that the only important moment is the past and the future,
Recognizing that moment is the past and the future,
Recognizing this true presence of being rooted and embracing this moment,
Beginning to come back into your space,
Noticing what it feels like here,
And opening your eyes if you close them.
Thank you.
