Hello and welcome.
Anxiety is something we all experience from time to time,
But for some of us it can be a more frequent,
Uninvited,
Even disruptive guest in our lives.
And while we may not be able to remove anxiety from our lives completely,
We can work towards reframing how we perceive its presence when it does arrive.
Today I am sharing with you a practice I use in my own life that I have found useful.
In this meditation,
We will open a dialogue with our anxiety using affirmations.
In doing so,
We seek to diffuse its potential negative effects and instead attempt to disarm it by seeing it for what it is.
To begin,
Find a comfortable position,
This may be seated or lying down,
But just try to find a place where you can feel the most at ease.
You may close your eyes or soften your gaze,
Whichever feels right for you,
And allowing your hands to rest in your lap or at your sides.
To begin,
Let's take some slow,
Even breaths in and out through the nose if you can,
Inhaling and exhaling.
Releasing your belly rise as you inhale and fall as you exhale.
Inhale and exhale.
One more time,
Inhale and exhale.
Turning now to your normal breath,
We'll begin our affirmations.
I will read each one aloud and you may repeat it afterwards either out loud or silently to yourself.
Anxiety does not define me or my worth in the world.
Anxiety does not exist to harm me.
Anxiety seeks to alert and protect me.
Anxiety is not my enemy.
I accept my anxiety.
Anxiety does not define me or my worth in the world.
Anxiety does not exist to harm me.
Anxiety seeks to alert and protect me.
Anxiety is not my enemy.
I accept my anxiety.
Anxiety does not define me or my worth in the world.
Anxiety does not exist to harm me.
Anxiety seeks to alert and protect me.
Anxiety is not my enemy.
I accept my anxiety.
Now moving on,
We'll begin to address anxiety directly as if you were speaking to it.
I hear you and acknowledge your presence.
I know you only seek to raise my awareness.
I will choose how I engage with you.
I hear you and acknowledge your presence.
I know you only seek to raise my awareness.
I will choose how I engage with you.
I hear you and acknowledge your presence.
I know you only seek to raise my awareness.
I will choose how I engage with you.
In these final moments,
Notice if you feel any type of difference or shift since you began this meditation.
Reflecting upon or attempting to change our relationship to our anxiety and how we choose to engage with it is a process.
It takes time,
Effort,
And consistency.
You may repeat this meditation or the affirmations anytime you find them helpful.
Above all,
Be kind and patient with yourself.
You are worth it.
Be well,
Friend,
And thank you for joining me.
